The Education Services team supports NYSCI’s mission by developing and implementing a vast array of innovative educational programs for Pre-K-12th grade students, educators and families. Our programs invite learners to actively engage in the exploration of STEM concepts and practices. The department cultivates many local and national partnerships, including colleges and universities; collaborates on research projects; develops STEM learning resources; and leads educational initiatives with our community to increase science awareness, excitement and interest in learners of all ages.


The Coordinator of Strategic Education Initiatives will be responsible for overseeing or collaborating on educational initiatives within the portfolio of projects assigned to the Strategic Education Initiatives division that include developing and delivering rigorous educational experiences and STEM resources for K- 12th grade students, teachers and families. Additionally, the Coordinator of Strategic Education Initiatives will oversee the implementation and strategic growth of Urban Advantage, a standards-based partnership program designed to improve students' understanding of scientific inquiry through collaborations between urban public school systems and science cultural institutions.


1.     Oversee the implementation and coordination of all aspects of the Urban Advantage program including the direct supervision of a FT Instructor, cultivating and leveraging partnerships, and meeting all project deliverables.

2.     Serve as project manager on assigned grant funded projects and collaborate with internal staff and external partners to meet deliverables.

3.     Design and implement professional development programs for teachers and teacher leaders, both in person and online.

4.     Develop instructional materials and curriculum resources suitable for national audiences.

5.     Coordinate professional development sessions for Education Services staff focused on informal learning methods, techniques and activities.

6.     Cultivate and sustain organizational partners to increase NYSCI visibility in the field and grant funding opportunities. Act as a NYSCI representative by attending meetings and conferences to disseminate project findings, increase public awareness of NYSCI programs and cultivate partnerships and networks.

7.     Collaborate with the Finance department to track and maintain invoicing and budget expenses for all assigned grants and projects.

8.     Assist with Education Services programs for students, teachers and families both onsite and offsite.

9.     Assist in other duties as needed.


1 Full Time Instructor


B.A. or equivalent degree in appropriate field.

5 years experience working in informal learning field or similar organization with a combination of:

●      2 years experience managing staff

●      3 years experience with professional development and/or curriculum resource development


1.     Familiar with progressive pedagogy and culturally relevant teaching strategies for formal and informal settings that support creative engaged learning for all students and teachers.

2.     Up to date knowledge about designing, implementing, and evaluating professional development curriculum and programs for teachers and teacher leaders, both in person and online.

3.     Knowledgeable about NYS science curriculum, standards and assessment as well as the Next Generation Science Standards.

4.     Flexible scheduling to participate in events outside the workday schedule and must be available to work occasional evenings and weekends, as needed.

5.     Ability to effectively communicate and actively listen with internal and external stakeholders including partners, program participants, supervisors and other team members.

6.     Ability to establish long-range objectives and specify the strategies and actions to achieve them. Develop policies, procedures, methods & standards within the department.


$55,000-$60,000; includes an excellent NYSCI benefits package.
