Good Old Lower East Side (GOLES) is a neighborhood housing and preservation organization that has served the Lower East Side of Manhattan since 1977. We’re dedicated to tenants’ rights, homelessness prevention, economic development, and community revitalization. We achieve these goals through three interconnected strategies: 1) Direct Services, 2) Resident Education, and 3) Community Organizing. 

The bookkeeper will assist GOLES’ Director of Finance and Administration in managing the organization’s accounting, budgeting, and grants compliance, and will report directly to the Director of Finance and Administration. This is a position requiring 35 hours per week.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

The bookkeeper will ensure the accuracy of GOLES’ books and records and produce financial reports as needed in order for management and the board to fulfill their fiduciary oversight responsibilities. Ongoing duties include:

- processing and posting accounts payable, accounts receivable (including creating and processing invoices and vendor payments),  

- completing monthly credit card reconciliations, deposits of cash receipts, and creating monthly financial statements.   

The bookkeeper will also assist in:

- performing back-up payroll, onboarding, and offboarding duties, including posting payroll entries.

- assist with special projects a per Director of Finance and Administration

Qualifications: 

At least three years of experience bookkeeping; strong Excel and Quickbooks skills; prior non-profit finance experience; experience with grants preferred, high level of detail and accuracy; strong organizational and problem-solving skills; strong time management skills; uses time effectively; consistently meets deadlines; ability to work independently and adapt to changing priorities; maintains credibility through sincerity, honesty, and discretion, maintains a high level of confidentiality regarding sensitive information; and possess the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
