Established in New York City in 1977 as the New York Experimental Glass Workshop, UrbanGlass fosters experimentation and advances the use and critical understanding of glass as a creative medium.  

Today UrbanGlass serves a community of over 300 professional artists and designers making work in glass with an annual budget of $2.75 million and 23 full and part-time employees. We deliver a full range of education programming to 3,500 students; provide opportunities to see and learn about contemporary work in glass through a robust exhibition schedule; offer free public programming; operate a street level retail store, and publish GLASS: The UrbanGlass Art Quarterly. In 2017, UrbanGlass served more than 11,000 artists, students and members of the public.


Position

The Executive Director is responsible for shaping and implementing the mission and policies set by the Board of Directors and realized in the strategic and annual operating plans. The Executive Director reports to the Board.


Broadly, the Executive Director’s duties include managing the UrbanGlass programs, facility, development, financials and staff through her/his direct reports; taking a lead role our development efforts; providing the primary liaison between staff and the Board (and it’s committees) and providing reports to the Board on the management of the organization.


The Executive Director serves as the face of UrbanGlass to all its constituencies and will work with the Board, staff, and user community to steward the health of the organization. Priorities are implementing the current 3 year Strategic Plan including fundraising for financial sustainability; building relationships and partnerships with other organizations; setting institutional culture; and leading a highly capable team.

 

Qualifications


-A minimum of three years arts administration or management experience

-Knowledge or experience in non-profit governance

-Broad knowledge of contemporary artistic practice, interest in glass is essential

-Ability to work with a variety of constituents, including a diverse community of artists

-Proven fundraising track record

-Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
