We are seeking a Visual Art Teacher to join our Visual and Performing Arts team in September of 2018. The Visual and Performing Arts department integrates visual art, performance, and art education into our programs serving thousands of New Yorkers in need, including our Early Childhood Center, RealArts Afterschool Program and Summer Camp, two senior centers, day program for older adults with dementia or related disorders, and housing and homeless services. This is an exciting position for someone who is passionate about bringing visual art and arts education to our community as part of a strong, collaborative inter-disciplinary organization.
The Visual Art Teacher will be responsible for developing and teaching visual art classes, working with other teaching staff to plan classes and activities, and assisting in the RealArts Afterschool program. The Visual Art Teacher will plan and teach art classes for a variety of populations, including children in our RealArts Afterschool and Summer Camp programs and older adults who participate in our senior centers. The Visual Art Teacher is also responsible for the general supervision of participants during art classes and related activities. The Visual Art Teacher will work with a team of arts educators and must be a caring individual who has experience working with diverse populations.
Qualifications: The Visual Art Teacher will possess a combination of visual art and education programming skills. S/he will be energetic, organized and self-motivated, and will also be very creative and thoughtful in the development and oversight of visual art-related educational programming. S/he must have great communication and team-building skills, with a demonstrated commitment to implementing and expanding quality arts education. Relevant Bachelor’s Degree in Art, or related field required. Must have a minimum of 1 year of previous experience teaching school age children. The hours are approximately 20 hours per week, Monday – Friday.
