    Description

    BACKGROUND: STEM Paths Innovation Network (SPIN) is a nonprofit offering K-12 instruction, mentoring and program development in science, technology, engineering, math, and art

    SPIN provides after school and summer STEM programming to North Seattle schools. Classes include but are not limited to: Robotics, Video Game Design, 3D Printing, Minecraft, and Circuitry.

    We provide Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer sessions of between 10 and 11 weeks, with no classes during school breaks. In the summer we provide 6 weeks of enrichment.

    The start date for this position is ASAP.

    In person school year schedule including setup and break down will adjust, but will be similar to 2023/24:

    Wednesday 1:00pm - 4:10pm 

    Thursday 2:25pm - 5:25pm

    In person summer schedule, including setup and break down:

    July-August 2025, exact dates and times TBD. 6 weeks of 6.5 hours/week.

    After School Instructor

    The After School Instructor is an hourly, part time position. Compensation is $30/hour without benefits. We anticipate around 10 hours/week in this position with a possibility for growth. SPIN will provide curriculum, technology training, and professional development in classroom management and culturally responsive pedagogy. Ideal candidates will bring a desire to work with kids and a willingness to learn! We value lived experience and a STEM background is not a requirement for this position - CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT is the key to success.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Facilitate groups of up to 15 students in classes focused on science, technology, engineering and math enrichment
    • Take part in Youth Program Quality Assurance process to continue to improve SPIN programming in collaboration with Baldwin and Seattle Parks & Recreation
    • In collaboration with on-site team, provide needed reporting materials to SPIN and to our funding partners
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Docs
    • Attend required training and check-ins, maintain attendance and discipline records, administer and submit pre and post survey data.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
    • Comfort with technology. Willingness to learn new subjects.
    • Experience with class management and/or willingness to learn
    • Outstanding time management and organizational skills
    • Committed to providing all kids with equal education opportunities.

    PREFERED SKILLS:

    Experience working with low-income students, included but not limited to Title 1 schools, and a familiarity with the unique gifts and needs of this population.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Must be able to commit to the Fall and Winter schedule (through December). Substitutes are not readily available.
    • Must be able to pass a Seattle Public Schools background check, which may include fingerprinting
    • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform loading and unloading of equipment
