Creative Capital, a national 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, seeks a Director of Development who is passionate about leading our fundraising efforts to support bold, risk-taking contemporary artists in the visual arts, performing arts, literary arts, moving image, and multidisciplinary practices. This role is a key member of the leadership team at Creative Capital and reports directly to the President and Executive Director. The ideal candidate is a talented fundraising professional with creative ideas, a robust network of trusted relationships, and extensive experience in grant-writing, foundations, corporate donors, and individual giving in the arts and culture sector. Qualified candidates must have a proven track record of success in closing high-level corporate and foundation donations, and cultivating and stewarding major donors. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


●     Direct development efforts in collaboration with the President & Executive Director to grow a $5 million(+) portfolio of funders that includes foundations, individuals, and corporate sponsors

●     Develop and implement fundraising strategies to contributed income through individual, institutional, and corporate giving partnerships, and events

●     Work with the Board of Directors and National Advisory Council to deeply engage their networks to grow contributed income; assists President and Executive Director with the management of the Board Development Committee

●     Collaborate with Artist Initiatives team to prioritize funding needs and to create funding strategies for new initiatives, including engaging Creative Capital awardees in fundraising campaigns and help introduce artists and their bold visions to donors and prospects

●     Innovate, refine and grow the individual giving program, leveraging the organization’s vast assets to connect with like-minded major donors across the country

●     Design and grow a corporate sponsorship program aligned with Creative Capital’s unique position as the leading artist support organization in the country

●     Work closely with Communications team to conceptualize, strategize, and manage funder-based initiatives and campaigns in support of growing contributed income

●     Produce donor impact reports, corporate sponsorship decks, funding proposals and interim and final reports in collaboration with the Communications team

●     Oversees management of Creative Capital’s donor database; conduct funder research, outreach, and moves management tracking

●     Travel (when permitted) to strategic fundraising locations throughout the US

●     Proactively works across departments to ensure smooth communications and synergies with artist grant-making, artist retreat, artist services and programs

●     Manage Development department budget in collaboration with Chief Operating Officer

●     Responsible for hiring, managing, and mentoring Development staff

 


Requirements:

●     10+ years of professional experience in nonprofit arts and cultural fundraising with increasing responsibilities

●     Proven track track record of securing foundation donations and managing foundation relationships, cultivating and securing high-level individual donations ($50,000+), and cultivating and closing corporate sponsorships

●     Proven track record of upholding DEIA values.

●     Experience mentoring and collaborating with diverse staff

●     Diplomatic, proactive, and solution-driven professional; strategic, pragmatic, and creative thinker

●     Self-directed and able to work well collaboratively

●     Exceptional writing, editing and communication skills

●     Extensive experience in funder research and the use of industry tools

●     Detail-oriented with an ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines

●     Passion for contemporary art and artists.     

●     Proficiency with Mac OS, MS Office, Google Workspace, Salesforce and Wealth Engine

 

The position is full-time (40 hours/week with occasional travel and special events). Ideally, candidates are based in or near Creative Capital’s offices in New York City. Includes generous paid time off and benefits. Competitive salary in the range of $100,000 to $125,000. Seeking to fill the position by July 1, 2021.
