Position Title:                 Director of Development (CFG)

Status:                          Full-Time, Exempt

Reports to:                    Chief Executive Officer

Supervises:                    Development Department Personnel (staff and interns)

THE OPPORTUNITY

Chicago Sinfonietta, a professional orchestra with a mission of equity, diversity and inclusion, seeks a full-time Director of Development (CFG) for immediate hire.

Chicago Sinfonietta is seeking to fill this critical position on its team to further the organization's work championing equity, diversity, and inclusion by creating community through bold symphonic experiences. This is a unique opportunity to work alongside one of today’s most dynamic, forward -looking organizations, within an environment of support and innovation. The Development Director is responsible for supporting the department in its goals of building, executing, and sustaining a robust strategic development plan that enables Chicago Sinfonietta to achieve its philanthropic goals. The primary duties involve the management of the Department’s CRM database (Spektrix) and primary lead on tracking development campaigns and initiatives.



Job Summary: The Director of Development (CFG) is responsible for building and sustaining a robust strategic development plan that enables Chicago Sinfonietta to achieve its philanthropic goals. This is a leadership position charged with helping guide the organization toward realizing its mission, vision, and values. Primary duties involve the management of government, corporate, and foundation relationships and fundraising operations. The Director of Development (CFG) is responsible for developing and advancing relationships from institutional partners that enable Chicago Sinfonietta to achieve its annual revenue and long-term goals.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:


o Serving as a member of the leadership team, assisting the Development Team in setting institutional policy, procedures, and long-term strategic planning. Attend meetings of the Board of Directors and its committees as assigned. Represent the Chicago Sinfonietta in the community and industry.

o Manage a portfolio of qualified corporate, government, foundation, and public sector funders through a robust calendar of research, identification, networking, cultivation, solicitation, proposals, reports, and stewardship activities.

o Collaborate and closely work with the Development Team on department goals, strategy, and execution.

o Serve as a liaison and collaborator with the Marketing and Patron Services Department, ensuring consistent customer-focused service and benefit fulfillment at every touch point. Proof materials to ensure that donor recognition and membership information is accurate in program books, social media, and the website.

o Coordinate and communicate consistently with the Development Team, the Marketing and Patron Services Department, and CS staff as assigned and needed.

o Increase foundation and public sector funding through research, advocacy, proposal writing, and compliance reporting. Maintain the organization grant proposal and reporting calendar.

o Schedule and attend face-to-face visits, performances, and events to ensure active philanthropic engagement and a positive cultural experience.

o Create and manage a robust sponsorship program, securing annual and multi-year underwriters for Chicago Sinfonietta events by crafting creative packages that meet the unique needs of the sponsor while aligning with the Orchestra’s brand and program offerings.

o Complete contact reports following prospect and donor engagements.

o Oversee the maintenance of all foundation, government, and corporate donor files and records; develop and administer all donor benefits programs in accordance with IRS guidelines.

o In collaboration with the Development Team, formulate short and long-term goals specific to fundraising efforts of the organization

o In collaboration with the Development Team, develop actionable strategies for meeting and exceeding goals through grants, sponsorships, gifts, donations, and fundraising events.

o Track revenue and fundraising trends, then use the information to predict future opportunities for expansion efforts and avoid any downtrends in individual, corporate, or foundation gifts.

o Lead execution on all grant applications and reporting processes. Stay current on community-wide philanthropic priorities and ensure the Chicago Sinfonietta is addressing them.

o Develop a plan for achieving those goals and establish a master calendar that outlines all fundraising events and campaigns; coordinate all activities with the Chicago Sinfonietta's master calendar.

o Work closely with the Development Team and other designated staff in long-range planning for the Chicago Sinfonietta; prepare budget projections as needed.

o Provide periodic progress reports on all campaigns; prepare listings and financial statements as needed by the Board and staff.

o Support Board and staff efforts to solicit in-kind contributions.

o Attend other civic and cultural events in the community; represent the Chicago Sinfonietta by speaking at public events as requested.

Grants

❏    Assist in the research of new funding opportunities for general operations and programs

❏    Strategize with Development team on approach for prospective funding

❏    Responsible for prioritizing and meeting application and reporting deadlines and maintaining the schedule on the Development Department’s Master Calendar

❏    Work with the Development Team and Senior Staff to identify projects and needs within the organization to create opportunities for new funding streams

❏    Responsible for maintaining records, data and research on a variety of prospective funders and their funding priorities pertaining to grants.

❏    Assist in the writing and submission of grants

❏    Assist in the oversight of proposed grant activities and reporting



SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS:

o Familiarity with classical music, equity, diversity, & inclusion principles, music education, and the entertainment industry preferred.

o Availability to work nights and weekends as required.

o High level of reliability, flexibility, and maturity.

o Ability to establish credibility with a variety of individuals at all levels.

o Interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to work with diverse  personalities.

o Ability to organize effectively and work independently.

o Ability to deal discreetly with patrons, staff, and sensitive information is essential.

o Ability to deal effectively with a large amount of detail.


Minimum Base Salary: $75,000
