SUMMARY

The Development Specialist, Capital Campaign is a key member of the Capital Campaign team within Institutional Advancement. This position assists with the coordination, planning, implementation, and execution of all research, prospecting and cultivation efforts related to the Capital Campaign. This position reports to the Associate Director, Capital Campaign.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assist Capital Campaign staff and key volunteers on the planning and execution of 8-10 annual donor events and additional intimate donor engagement experiences
  • Assist in strategic thinking around event and donor communications; work with development communications manager and other event managers to ensure invites to donors are coordinated and messaging is consistent
  • Conduct prospect research and aid in pipeline development; mine event data and RSVPs for new prospects and donor networks  
  • Maintain the Capital Campaign events calendar, coordinating team discussions around priorities and strategies for the annual event schedule
  • Coordinate appropriate documentation and tracking for campaign events, including guest lists, attendees, key donor interactions, research and follow up strategies
  • Serve as liaison to and collaborate across the institution to execute campaign events including Marketing, Rentals, Operations, Facilities, Graphics, and Public Programs
  • Assist in managing campaign event timelines and logistics for lead-up and day-of event support; including guest list research and development, invitations (print and electronic), RSVP tracking, program planning, coordinating catering, etc.
  • Work with outside vendors; coordinate internal staff and aid in set-up and break-down of each event and manage space-booking for all events
  • Support Associate Director in driving Board Committee work that contributes to the Campaign
  • Some night and weekend work required
  • Additional duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3-4 years fundraising experience in a nonprofit, educational or museum environment
  • Experience dealing with high level volunteers and board members a plus
  • Knowledge of best practices in fundraising and event planning
  • Ability to work well in a team environment, and to liaise effectively with staff members in departments throughout the museum
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of science education, arts and education helpful
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize, and manage multiple projects
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Possession of excellent problem-solving skills
