Work Hours: Full-time position which includes evenings, weekends and on-call (3 week rotation)

Summary

Schedule: days, evenings, weekends and on-call (3 week rotation) - We are currently working in the office and remotely: Temporarily due to COVID-19. Please note that to minimize the spread of COVID-19, DC SAFE employees are currently teleworking and in the office also. This position will also be expected to work from the DC SAFE Washington, DC offices once we determine it is safe to do so.

DC SAFE is is seeking to hire an On-Calls Supervisor who are self-aware individuals committed to service, equity, integrity, and excellence.

Advocates offer direct services to victims of domestic violence on a 24/7 calendar and at various entry points including but not limited to: DC SAFE’s 24-hour 800 number, ride-along, on call, in the DVICs, in Court and at the DC SAFE’s Crisis Shelter. Advocates primarily assist SAFE clients through direct services and programmatic duties.

DC SAFE advocates serve as a direct link to community resources to assist victims in maintaining their safety and fulfilling immediate social service needs through short-term case management. DC SAFE Advocates also provide systems advocacy by providing feedback to the court, the police, and other actors within the legal system regarding their impact on survivors.

 Essential Functions (Job Duties)

 Response Line Supervision:

  • Monitor the Response Line Activity Dashboard regularly for quality control and to ensure that all services provided are being logged in the proper locations. Specifically ensure that all hotels, lock changes, and DCFNE exams are logged in the appropriate google documents.
  • Step in when experiencing increased call volume to ensure timely services or cases are escalated beyond Response Line (RL) staff capacity.
  • Ensure proper materials about the RL are available for community partners and the general public, as well as keeping the Response Line resources up to date.
  • Attend community meetings/trainings/events as necessary to promote Crisis Intervention Services services.
  • Network with members of the community and assist in recruiting volunteers.
  • Supervise the implementation of new resources and ensure that call takers are following established referral mechanisms and screening.

 Supportive Advocacy Services:

  • Provide intake and supervision at the Domestic Violence Intake Center locations as scheduled.
  • Monitor Intake Center flow, assign cases, provide feedback to SAT team as necessary for smooth provision of services.
  • Step in when cases are escalated beyond SAT staff capacity.

 On Call Duties:

  • During scheduled periods, remain available to provide in-person emergency services to survivors of domestic violence in the community including: completing Emergency Temporary Protection Orders, staffing the Response Line as needed, conducting shelter check in’s, meeting with clients in person if an in-person hotline intake is needed at a public place such as a hospital or police station.
  • Provide support to volunteers and advocates staffing the Response Line by checking in via telephone and completing data entry of volunteer interactions on the Response Line as needed.
  • The independent authority to make decisions about service delivery based on policies provided in the field manual with secondary support available when needed.
  • Ability to act as the programmatic authority during non-traditional business hours or as needed.

 Other Duties:

  • Conduct outreach and education functions regarding DC SAFE Programming and domestic violence as needed including attending Police Roll Calls and Police Ride Along.
  • Mandatory attendance to one staff meeting and one advocate meeting per month.
  • Support the supervision and training of staff, interns and volunteers as needed.
  • Participate in trainings to enhance professional knowledge of domestic violence.
  • Assists in other duties as needed and directed.
  • Process CVC applications and lock change invoices related to hotel placements and lock changes as well as other emergency financial assistance offered to clients through the Crisis Response Team.
  • Create and Maintain the Response Line and On Call Joint calendar for DC SAFE Staff and Volunteers.
  • Assist with processing and monitoring statistics related to Crisis Response Team services.
  • Communicating partner concerns & issues as they arise to appropriate program coordinator.

 Qualifications

Background and Experience

1-2 years of experience with crisis intervention work

1-2 years of experience managing others preferred.

Applicants with mandatory 40-hour advocacy training completed preferred.

Bilingual applicants preferred.

Experience with domestic violence issues and DC social service resources.

Attention to detail and ability to closely follow protocol and procedures is a must.

Experience working with law enforcement preferred.

Comfortable working with diverse populations.

Experience with the criminal and civil legal system preferred.
