Immigrant Rights Organizer (Must live in Nevada)

Organization Overview 

The Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada (PLAN) was founded in 1994 by local activists to build a more fair and just Nevada that puts people and planet first. We organize with front-line communities and directly impacted leaders to fight for policy change and community investments that improve people’s lives. Since 1994, our organization has grown from 12 original founding member groups to a current membership of more than 30 groups. PLAN is recognized by the IRS as a not for profit 501c3 charitable organization. 

Position Overview 

PLAN Immigrant Rights Organizer 

The Immigrant Rights Organizer will work with our Immigrant Rights team to develop and lead an organizing strategy that will address the challenges immigrants, refugees, and undocumented folks face in Nevada and across the country.  The organizer will be responsible for building out and implementing a strategy that will ensure Nevada is a welcoming state for all. Additionally, it will be critical to support the nation's organizing effors to win a pathway towards citizenship for the 11 million undocumented immigrants in the US. 

Primary Functions 

The Immigrant Rights Organizer's primary functions are as listed below: 

• Drive the implementation of an immigrant rights campaign strategy while working with team members, key stakeholders, and external partners 
• Develop political education and other campaign materials that educate community members and key stakeholders on issues impacting immigrant and refugee communities 
• Support the training and leadership development of people directly impacted by the immigration system through one-on-ones with identified leaders
• Work with leaders to participate in city and statewide coalitions
• Seek out opportunities to base build and strengthen the political power of the immigrant rights movement through days of action, mobilizations, phone banks, media coverage, and other activities as part of our immigrant rights  campaigns
• Help coordinate, plan, and execute internal & external meetings, webinars, and strategy sessions
• Prepare written reports, meeting summaries, and related materials as they pertain to the work
• Work closely with the Immigrant Rights Program Manager and the rest of the Immigration team to move the mission of PLAN forward

Qualifications 

The ideal candidate will possess many, if not all, of the following qualifications: 

• A strong commitment to racial equity and social justice with the ability to talk about identities such as race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, class, ability, or gender in plain, specific terms. 
• Has, or can create, a system for keeping tasks from slipping through the cracks with the ability to work independently or in a team setting  
• Able to juggle competing demands and prioritize without sacrificing the quality of work. This requires the ability to plan backward to make deadlines and ask for help when needed.
• Develop mission-driven and people-centered plans with their direct support and team to get to the finish line, especially when things get hectic.
• Enthusiasm for meeting and engaging with people, especially those communities we work with directly and ensuring it is done in a culturally competent manner 
• Able to put people at ease through strong listening skills, especially when there are lines of difference, and understanding the needs and concerns of others. Then taking the needed steps to adjust campaign plans based on input. 
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Suite
• Willingness and aptitude to learn new technical skills
• Strong interpersonal communication skills in person, on the phone, and in writing. Not fazed by going door to door, phonebanking, or problem-solving.
