DESCRIPTION 

French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) is a 501(c) (3) not-for-profit organization incorporated in the State of New York. FIAF's mission is to create and offer New Yorkers innovative and unique programs in education and the arts that explore the evolving diversity and richness of French cultures. FIAF presents Cinema, Performing Arts, Visual Arts and social event programs. FIAF is also home to the leading, private French library in the U.S. and is the only language school in New York solely dedicated to teaching French. 

Position Summary: The French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) seeks a candidate for the position of Staff Accountant (in-person). Under the direction of the Comptroller, the Staff Accountant will be responsible for general accounting and bookkeeping responsibilities as well as assisting the team with various projects. 

Main responsibilities may include, but not be limited to: 

  • Process invoices by check or wire and posting them to the correct ledger in QuickBooks 
  • Review expense reports and statements and process and post them to correct accounts 
  • Prepare weekly bank deposits and post them to the general ledger 
  •  Coordinate with our various departments to follow-up on questions about payments and receivables 
  • Process payroll using ADP Workforce now 
  • Process bi-weekly funding for 403b, FSA and Transit 
  • Assist with annual audit 
  • Prepare annual 1099 forms 

Qualifications: 

  • At least 3 years of experience in accounting, preferably in a not-for-profit organization  
  • Working knowledge of payroll systems, such as ADP Workforce now 
  • Experience and working knowledge of QuickBooks and Excel 
  • Strong interest in growing their accounting skill set  
  • Hard worker who can be self-starter, but still work well in a team environment 
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask with strong organizational skills 
  • High degree of accuracy and detail-oriented 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong organizational skills 
  • Ability to work well with diverse group of peers 
  • Self-motivated to work independently and balance workload assignments within time constraints 
  • Communicates in a positive, respectful manner 
  • Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with a Centers for Disease Control (CDC) or World Health Organization (WHO) authorized vaccine (or approved for an exemption as a reasonable accommodation due to a qualified disability or sincerely held religious belief or other legal basis. 
  • Must be legally able to work in the US

LEVEL OF LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY 

Fluent English, Spoken French a plus. 

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED: 

Bachelor’s in Accounting or Finance required.
