Support Person & Caregiver for Interesting 96 year-old Professor of Peace Studies
On a beautiful idyllic property with a family whose values include caring and kindness, learning and creating, organization and responsibility, communication and cooperation, safety and good design of each day….we are looking for Caregivers for a 97-year-old Professor of International Law and Humanities. He has been living with his oldest daughter and grandson on an idyllic property in Owings Mills with deer, birds, turtles, frogs, animals of all kinds for over six years. We are looking for someone who has good experience with advocating and caretaking for older people over 70, either in a professional setting or within your own family. Saul is intelligent, easy-going (most of the time!), and is in great physical shape, due to the great care and routine he has been receiving already with his daughter.
Daily duties will include:
Saul values his independence and is quite amazing and yet he needs to be attended to in regards to his safety during the day when he is going upstairs, taking a shower and walking.
Due to the Pandemic, it is important that measures be taken to ensure that Dad and the caregiver are super safe. With all of our caretakers this has been a great value for them and us, as if we are in a quarantine bubble together. This includes washing hands frequently, use of alcohol wipes, wearing masks (required), wearing gloves (when necessary), not going out to stores unless agreed to, 2ce monthly testing on site, using good precautions and common sense in your own lives when you are away from the property, primarily staying at home. This can be discussed in further detail upon interviewing. We will be giving preference to people who have been and are mostly or fully staying-at-home and can assure us of not being exposed to coronavirus.
The day will be from 8.30am to 8.30am (24 hour shifts) and will include some down time in which caregivers can take walks in the park, sit outside, read, do crafts, work on their own computer, take an afternoon nap, make phone calls. Generally, Saul is up from somewhere between (sometimes a little bit earlier) 8:00am and 8:30am to 9am.
Pay is $185 per day, $250 for a 24-hour shift (sleep-in). Currently, we are looking for people who are available to work 2 or 3 34-hour shifts. In addition, filling in when our other caregivers are on vacation or at short notice. Must have reliable car transportation. This position has opportunities for pay increases with 3 month reviews and for a minimum commitment of 6 months (ideally 12 months). We are also always looking for people who would be willing to work nights only shifts beginning at $75 from 8:30pm - 8:30am. Training hours will be paid as well.
