Description

The New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission (NEIWPCC) and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) are seeking an organized and diplomatic Environmental Analyst – Geologist to provide overall program implementation on Long Island, update Source Water Assessment and Protection Plans (SWAPPs), and provide technical assistance to communities preparing SWAPPs. Candidate will review and prioritize existing SWAPPs for Nassau and Suffolk Counties and coordinate with NYSDEC and other state and local agencies to collect relevant information. Will identify potential contamination threats from geothermal systems, Hazardous Waste Remediation sites, inactive landfills, petroleum spill sites, threats from industrial and commercial facilities, solid waste facilities, and areas with 1,4-dioxane and PFAS contamination.

The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in geology or a related field. Knowledge and experience with aspects of water quality and watershed management required. Experience working with a broad range of stakeholders in implementing environmental programs desired. Must be able to work effectively with scientists, engineers, and managers, and to establish professional credibility. Must possess excellent computer skills including the ability to use and master ArcGIS. Knowledge of budget preparation and management, project and contract management, and grant writing and management desired. Refer to www.neiwpcc.org for full position description.
