Job Purpose

The Bail Fund Specialist helps to maintain the health of The Bail Project’s Revolving Bail Fund by ensuring that funds revolve as quickly as possible. Specifically, the Bail Fund Specialist will work with Operations team members to ensure that The Bail Project recovers all bail refunds in a timely manner.

The Bail Fund Specialist will also be responsible for producing analysis regarding outstanding bail and ensuring accurate record-keeping with respect to bail refunds.

The Bail Funds Specialist will be a member of the Finance team and report to the Chief Financial Officer.

Essential Duties:

Bail Refunds

  • Work with TBP site teams to identify bonds due for refund
  • Follow up directly with local clerk’s offices court systems to obtain bail refunds
  • Act as a central problem solver for all issues related to obtaining bail refunds and work with local court systems / clerk's offices to streamline bail refund processes
  • Work as a point-person for the establishment of codified best practices and procedures for obtaining bail refunds; assist Operations Managers in implementing the same at TBP sites
  • Help build out a system for receiving and processing bail refunds centrally using bank lockboxes, and administer that system once established

Analysis, Reporting and Record-Keeping

  • Conduct analysis related to collectability and aging of outstanding bail, trends in obtaining bail refunds, forfeiture rates, and other related topics
  • Ensure accuracy of Salesforce records and documentation related to bail refunds and bail documentation more broadly
  • Other ad hoc Bail Fund and Finance tasks as assigned

Position Results Description:

  • Reduce the dollar amount of outstanding bail that is due for refund
  • Reduce the median days between case closure and bail refund, where possible
  • Establish bank lockbox system for receiving and processing bail refunds centrally
  • Regularly produce high-quality analysis related to the amount of outstanding bail and the aging and collectability of the same

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrates an interest in social and racial justice and/or criminal legal reform
  • Experience and skills with data analysis and data entry; ability to work with and organize large data sets
  • Proficiency with computers and software, especially Microsoft Excel, with experience in Salesforce and G Suite a plus
  • Ability to work and establish relationships with a wide array of local stakeholders such as judicial clerks, even when they may be uncooperative
  • Committed to completing daily work in an accurate, timely, and consistent manner
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Persistence and consistent follow-up
  • Takes responsibility for results, is self-reflective and seeks out and considers feedback

Hours:

This is a full time position working 40 hours per week
