The Scope

Reporting to the Programme Manager (Forest Management), the Policy Manager – Forest Management plans, organizes and coordinates the development, maintenance and consistent implementation of normative FSC documents in the core area of responsible forest management.

Main Roles and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate forest management projects and working group processes within the normative framework, including the development of the mechanisms for the operationalization of the FSC policy to address conversion:
  • Coordinate the process and implement the work plan, ensuring budget adherence and that deadlines are met.
  • Coordinate working groups, project team, consultants, etc.
  • Conduct communication activities (organize public consultations, maintain FSC website content, trainings, preparation of materials for members meetings, etc.).
  • Align with other units/teams working on conversion and remedy related topics, in particular the Engagement team, the Dispute Resolutions and Dispute System Transformation teams.
  • Keep up-to-date and comprehensive records relevant to the process.
  • Reply to information requests by stakeholders, particularly Certification Bodies and National Offices related to assigned responsibilities. 
  • Develop, under the guidance of the Programme Manager, the annual work plan and budget for the relevant projects.
  • Provide support to relevant research and analysis activities.
  • Represent FSC externally and other fora.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • University/technical college degree in forestry, natural resource management, social or environmental sciences, or a related field.
  • Training in Communications, FSC Certification, Project Management and/or administration are assets.
  • At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in one or more of the following: multi-stakeholder standards development processes, certification (including auditing), the forest sector/wood industry, conservation/restoration and social restitution, ecosystem services or corporate environmental and social responsibility programs.
  • Experience in leading cross-functional project teams and managing complex projects.
  • Pro-active approach towards solving problems as they occur.
  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to facilitate interactive discussions.
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written) – Spanish or French is a plus.
  • Good time management skills as well as strong sense for diligence and accuracy.
  • Solution- and service-oriented attitude to work.
  • Good skills in the use of/experience with standard software packages (MS Office).
  • Skills in database management platforms or Content Management Systems is a plus.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive interpersonal relations.
  • Commitment to FSC’s mission and values.

Terms and Conditions

  • Location: Bonn, Germany
  • Starting Date: 1st December 2021 or as soon as possible
  • Working Hours: Full-time (40 hours per week)
  • Duration of contract: The position is for a parental leave substitution, therefore limited for 12 to 14 months.
  • Travel: the position includes sporadic travel
