Operations Manager

Rockaway Initiative for Sustainability & Equity (RISE) is a community-based organization in Far Rockaway, Queens, New York, our mission is to inspire all generations of Rockaway residents to care for their environment and community. We provide civic engagement and youth development programs that advance social equity and the physical wellbeing of our vibrant, coastal community.

RISE is seeking a full time, experienced Operations Manager. The Operations Manager will report directly to the Executive Director and will be responsible for managing RISE’s operations, finance, and administration including overseeing the operations of RISE’s 7,000 sq ft community center.


Oversee day-to-day organization operations:

o Serve as the primary contact for inquiries and requests

o Manage all organization calendars

o Develop and enact institutional operational standards, procedures, and protocols

o Create and oversee detailed inventory systems to ensure RISE always has the materials necessary to function

o Providing support for RISE’s programs and events

Oversee finance and administration:

o Manage part time finance manager and book keeper

o Ensure payroll is executed in a timely fashion

o Manage all contracts, including vendor relations, staff contracting, and service contracts o Supervise all technology needs

o Managing organizational databases

o Oversee human resources management including on- and off-boarding employees, personnel records, and benefit package administration

o Approve petty cash and expenses

o Work with Finance team to help create the annual budget and provide oversight of that budget, including supplying additional financial reports as needed

Oversee management of the RISE Center:

o Ensure that all spaces are neat, organized, and optimized for their designated use

o Manage all building repairs and upkeep. This involves working with outside contractors

to schedule regular maintenance of our elevator, HVAC system, fire alarm, and more

o Manage part time maintenance staff

o Manage contracts/rental agreements for organizations who are interested in renting the space, with ongoing troubleshooting and problem-solving as needed o Execute exhibits and arts installation

o Be the point person on all matters related to building operations


  • 3-5 years of experience leading nonprofit finance, facilities management, and operations
  • Authentic commitment to the mission and values of the organization, a must!
  • Proven job reliability diligence, and dedication
  • Experience working and/or living in the Rockaway community, strongly preferred
  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in nonprofit management, business, or operations
  • Experience managing contractors, maintenance staff, or volunteers
  • Superior organizational skills, ability to self-start and self-motivate
  • Strong research skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to work as a part of a team, as well as independently
  • Strong computer skills; able to work with Microsoft word, Excel, and Google apps/calendar
  • Knowledge of QuickBooks and nonprofit financial accounting practices is a plus
  • Graphic design skills or experience with Constant Contact and/or Salesforce is a plus
  • This is a fulltime position that occasionally includes evenings, early mornings, or weekends. Salary is commensurate with experience. RISE offers a benefits package including health care, vacation/sick days, and 401k.
