Lilith Fund is seeking a highly-skilled, senior-level leader to take on the role of Deputy Director in Austin, Houston, or San Antonio, Texas. The Deputy Director will help shape the next phase of Lilith Fund, whose programs continue to grow in complexity, scale, and reach. This position has two large focus areas: 1.) overseeing and managing Lilith Fund’s programmatic work, and 2.) organizational and leadership development in order to create efficient systems and pathways for learning so that the program staff can continue to innovate and thrive; and so programs can have the greatest impact in our communities.

About Lilith Fund

Lilith Fund provides financial assistance and emotional support while building community spaces for people who need abortions in Texas—unapologetically, with compassion and conviction. Through organizing and movement-building, we foster a positive culture around abortion, strengthen people power, and fight for reproductive justice in and with our communities. Lilith Fund operates two core programs. Our first program is our Direct Assistance Hotline, which provides small grants to people seeking abortion in the central and southern regions of Texas—primarily in Houston, Austin, and San Antonio. Our second is the Client Engagement Program, which provides leadership development, emotional support, and case management services to clients.

Primary Responsibilities

Program Management and Oversight

  • Provide overall strategy, planning, development, evaluation, and oversight of hotline and client engagement programs; provide direct coaching and supervision for program staff
  • Ensure the timely execution of key organization-wide deliverables; cultivate a shared understanding of, and accountability to high organizational standards and fidelity to goals, policies, and protocols
  • Develop and implement plans for evolving staffing needs, promote internal staff leadership by implementing program-wide performance management practices, including support and oversight of program staff on the annual performance evaluation process
  • Support the alignment, development, and efficacy of individual staff, teams, and initiatives
  • Establish protocols and tools for organizational conflict transformation and implement relevant team healing practices, as necessary
  • Maintain and deepen our culture of continuous learning; design retreats, training, and practices that facilitate alignment, learning, experimentation, and celebration of accomplishments across programs
  • Establish mechanisms for utilizing data to inform program efficacy, benchmarks, and impact evaluation

Organizational and Leadership Development

  • Serve as a strategic thought partner and advisor to the Executive Director, inform and advise on overall strategy, troubleshoot challenges, and step in as needed during major organizational transitions
  • Serve as a thought partner to the Executive Director on big-picture programmatic, administrative, human resources, and budget decisions
  • Work with Executive Director to build practices that help us adapt to growth and enable us to evaluate program opportunities and requests against alignment with vision, values, and resources
  • Work with Executive Director to hone human resource policies and protocols; oversee implementation of systems and protocols to facilitate optimal organizational, team, and staff development, performance, and sustainability
  • Work closely with the Executive Director, key staff, and the board of directors to determine key program and operational budgets for the organization
  • Participate in yearly organizational strategic planning activities with consultants, Executive Director, and Board of Directors
  • Attend and present program reports for Board of Directors meetings and retreats; cultivate partnership with board members and offer key programmatic insight to inform board governance and big-picture decision making

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Participate in coalition activities and act as a representative of Lilith Fund within community partnerships and initiatives
  • Attend key meetings with allies and funders; attend conferences and convenings; and develop compelling materials, reports, and presentations about our program work and impact
  • Represent Lilith Fund at NNAF (National Network of Abortion Funds) programming and leadership opportunities

Qualifications

Lilith Fund is looking for a thoughtful leader who brings relevant life experience as well as deep demonstrable experience in organizational growth management; program planning, development, and evaluation; staff supervision, professional development, and team-building; training and facilitation; internal and external relationship building; and budget oversight.

  • Experience leading organization and/or team transformation
  • Ability to address conflict head-on with compassion, empathy, and sensitivity
  • Ability to cultivate, analyze, and use metrics/data to develop critical initiatives or changes
  • Commitment to creativity and trying new things; experience engaging others to think outside the box on leadership development and organization-wide innovation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with the ability to inspire and galvanize people to work collaboratively to achieve excellence
  • Grounded and resourceful, with strong self-awareness, cultural competence, emotional intelligence, and humility; flexible with a high degree of integrity and transparency
