Brooklyn Defender Services (BDS) seeks to hire a currently-practicing or former public defender to leverage their knowledge and experience to manage a national new media advocacy convening and training for public defenders, curate an online hub and activation point for public defender driven content and campaigns, and foster a national community of public defender movement leaders.
As public defenders, we see on a daily basis the unfairness in our criminal laws and practices. We are zealous advocates in court, but we are also legal experts, whose voice outside of court matters now more than ever. This position is intended to expand the policy impact that the legal expertise of frontline practitioners combined with media strategies can have.
- Experience as a public defender
- Interest and experience in social media, internet-based advocacy and other forms of media
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Interest in a national focus
- Comfortable with technology
- Interest in assisting with events and event planning
- Works well with others
