The Project

TMG Research gGmbH is implementing a project on Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) under the International Climate Initiative financed by the German Federal Ministry of Environment. In this project, TMG Research and partners identify EbA initia­tives and the enabling environment that made these successful in India and Guatemala. Building on local evidence, these good practices are discussed through multi-stakeholder dialogues, involving key decision-makers and experts from government, private sector, civil society, inter­national cooperation, and research. The development of roadmaps that contribute to a favourable policy environment for upscaling EbA will be an important outcome of these dialogues.

The position:

TMG Research is currently seeking applications for a

Research Associate (f/m/x) (80 – 100%)

The successful applicant will support the project in Maharashtra, India, in close collaboration with our Indian implementing partner Watershed Organisation Trust (WOTR), as well as project activities at global level.

Main tasks:

Specifically, the incumbent would be expected to:

  • provide technical and strategic support to the implementing partner in India, specifically in the development of a strategy plan for generating social and political support for the upscaling of EbA in Maharashtra
  • contribute to the analysis and consolidation of case study data from India
  • support in strategically positioning the project in the relevant (policy) debates through various types of publications and events
  • oversee the India work program, including ensuring process and output quality, budget controlling, and reporting, in close collaboration with the project coordinator
  • work together as a team in the Climate-SDG Integration Project on various cross-country products, in close collaboration with the Guatemala work stream
  • establish and maintain partnerships with organisations relevant to the project in India and at the international level.
  • contribute to the further strategic and scientific development of TMG Research.


  • At least three years of relevant work experience and experience in working within an international environment.
  • In-depth knowledge on issues of adaptation to climate change, natural resource management, and policy and governance processes
  • Master’s degree in natural resource management, international development, politics, or a related field in sustainability science.
  • Excellent management and organisational skills
  • Ability to work effectively, diplomatically and sensitively with a wide range of partners from science, politics and civil society.
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently to India and elsewhere
  • Experience and strong interest in scientific desk and applied research as well as in writing and science communication
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, good working knowledge of German is an asset
  • Enthusiasm, flexibility, strong team-sprit and a commitment to working within a transdisciplinary, policy-relevant research field

This position is to be filled as soon as possible until 31.03.2021, with the possibility of extension.
