Reporting directly to the Senior Director of External Relations, the Senior Manager of Communications is part of a small team dedicated to increasing philanthropic support for and awareness of HFC’s mission, strategic priorities, and programmatic goals.

The Senior Manager of Communications will bring experience, energy, and creative thinking to this dynamic role by providing exceptional support to HFC’s fundraising, communications, and brand-building strategies.

By executing a holistic strategic communications and marketing plan, the Senior Manager of Communications will help lead the way in expanding HFC’s reach as an informed and compassionately irreverent Alzheimer’s organization. They will cultivate new partners and influencers, broaden awareness of HFC’s mission, and increase the visibility of its programs to key stakeholders, including: families affected by dementia, a new generation of Alzheimer’s advocates, socially conscious cultural producers, donors, sponsors, and general audiences interested in brain health.

Scope of Responsibility:

Communications + Creative

  • Manage the execution of HFC’s communications calendar including: proactive and strategic scheduling; drafting and editing content for various audiences; communicating creative direction and feedback to graphic designers, printers, and other third parties; tracking timelines; and overseeing timely approval and sharing of content.
  • Own HFC’s social media community management: check social media platforms several times daily; respond to comments and questions thoughtfully, in a timely manner, and in line with HFC’s voice and brand guidelines; vet and forward contacts and opportunities to the HFC team as appropriate; inform HFC’s influencer strategy with learnings from community management.
  • Contribute to thoughtful content generation and narrative building to improve and increase engagement of HFC’s audiences.
  • Plan, draft, build, segment, schedule, gain approvals, and measure the effectiveness of all email marketing including HFC’s two monthly newsletters.
  • Assist in the development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic collateral including, but not limited to, social media, email, decks, press releases, brochures, reports, newsletters, and HFC's website. Create compelling materials that maintain a vibrant, high-quality online presence.
  • Regularly and proactively update and edit HFC's website to best communicate the organization's goals and mission. Ensure that new and consistent information is posted regularly.
  • Assist in creating consistency across all HFC branding, messaging, and campaigns.

Growth + Strategy

  • Oversee the management and growth of HFC’s social media platforms and track key performance indicators in partnership with HFC’s branding and communications agency.
  • Monitor trends in social media and technology in order to amplify HFC’s messaging across diverse and appropriate platforms.
  • Test the effectiveness of communications activities to drive awareness and create change toward HFC’s mission.
  • Lead the development and execution of a social media influencer strategy to increase engagement and grow followers across platforms.
  • Assist in ideation of plans to optimize our founders’ celebrity platforms.

External Affairs

  • Review and vet media inquiries and help coordinate appropriate follow-up.
  • Work with the HFC team to increase visibility through responses to media, panels, guest speaker opportunities, partnership requests, cause marketing opportunities, and other special external events.
  • Represent the organization as needed at (in-person and virtual) public events, conferences, speaking engagements, etc.
  • Manage and maintain stock of HFC collateral such as swag, stationery, brochures, business cards, and more as needed.
  • Identify opportunities to position HFC within the Alzheimer’s and brain health space via influencers, social media events, and media placements.

  • Experience in the Alzheimer’s space a plus.
  • Ability to promote and communicate the philosophy, mission, and values of HFC to stakeholders.
  • Proven and exceptional writing, communication, critical and creative thinking skills.
  • Ability to work independently, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects with foresight and in detail.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
  • Proven graphic design experience, preferably with Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Extensive knowledge of content and social media management systems, email marketing and MailChimp, and Salesforce.
  • Professional demeanor and ability to interact with Board of Directors, donors, celebrities, and senior staff.

Frequent evening, occasional weekend work, and some travel is required as the team works between the East and West Coasts. The Senior Manager of Communications is expected to work all Communications and some Fundraising events, most of which are virtual and take place after regular business hours.
