Supervising Residential Specialist - Orchid House, Bronx

Essential Job Functions:

Using neutral and non-judgmental language when responding to the needs and requests of residents and ensuring that Residential Specialist are meeting this expectation;

Provide crisis intervention including mediation and de-escalation skills to diffuse situations between residents family members and/or roommates;

Monitoring intake calls to assure staff are exploring and implementing immediate safety needs and a risk management plan during screening calls for shelter placement;

Mediating disputes and addressing grievances from a trauma informed perspective;

Assist the Director in the day to day operations of the program by ensuring the facility is meeting coverage and facility safety regulatory standards.

Efficient oversight of the unit vacancy, billing documentation and client intake process; including attendance, client signatures and absence notifications.

Ensuring that regular health and safety checks (rounds) and unit inspections occur as required.happen from a trauma informed perspective 

Provide staff with bi-weekly individual and monthly group supervision that is reflective and prioritizes improvement of CCP skills and includes discussions about vicarious trauma;

Responsible for recruiting, supervising and managing performance of residential specialists, which include disciplinary actions as needed.understanding and responding to vicarious trauma with a focus on self-care (both for self and for staff members)

Completing annual staff performance evaluations; developing staff professional development plans and consistent utilization of the agency’s performance management tools;

Maintaining appropriate professional boundaries with residents and staff;[PM4]

improve client centered practice skills and knowledge about self-care and Vicarious Trauma and its impact;[PM5]

Oversee the planning, implementing and/or researching self-care and other social activities by the Residential Specialist for residents and their children;

Actively participating in donor tours and helping with staff coverage and the implementation of special client events and holiday parties;

Assist the Director with the planning of the monthly staff meetings and training as requested;

Ensure accurate data is entered in activity logs, shift notes and CMS, SORTS, etc in a timely fashion;

Assigning childcare and residential coverage as needed;

Assigning or providing client accompaniment to important appointments when requested;

Other related tasks as assigned.


Qualifications:

Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries with residents and staff

Utilization of Client Centered Practice (CCP) skills

Ability to use neutral and non-judgmental language when responding to clients

Understanding and responding to vicarious trauma

Ability to engage with clients using a trauma informed perspective

Must be flexible, patient and able to juggle multiple roles simultaneously


Requirements:

High School Diploma, or GED

Minimum of three years of experience working with survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault or related field.

One year of supervisory experience preferred.

Ability to climb stairs to physically inspect sleeping quarters and to effectively activate and supervise the emergency site safety plan.

Must be able to lift a minimum of 30 pounds

Ability to use computer to retrieve emails, maintain activity logs and enter client notes

Additional Requirements:

On-call one to two weekends a month.

Required to work overtime as needed , including holidays and during clement weather

Paid mandatory training that occur in off-site locations and outside of the regular work schedule. 

Must obtain Hepatitis B vaccine or formally decline vaccination. Vaccination record from previous employer is acceptable.
