PORTLAND STATE UNIVERSITY, SCHOOL OF SOCIAL


Portland State University School of Social Work invites applicants for three (3) open-rank tenure track positions and one assistant professor tenure track position. The School of Social Work at Portland State University is committed to the enhancement of the individual and society. We are dedicated to social change and to the attainment of social justice for all people, the eradication of poverty, the empowerment of those who are oppressed, the rights of all individuals and groups to determine their destiny, and the opportunity to live in cooperation. The School offers degree programs in Child, Youth, and Family Studies, Bachelor in Social Work, Master of Social Work (campus, distance, and online options), and Doctor of Philosophy in Social Work and Social Research. The BSW and MSW degree programs are fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. Approximately 35 full-time and 50 part-time faculty provide instruction for our campus, distance, and online options. Our undergraduate enrollment is approximately 350, and graduate enrollment is over 500 students.


Child, Youth, and Family Studies:


The Child, Youth, and Family Studies program at Portland State University invites applications for one tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. We seek applicants who bring demonstrated experience and skill in interdisciplinary undergraduate education; commitment to service; and a scholarly agenda integrating commitments to racial equity and social justice with study of topics centering children, youth, families, and their communities.


Bachelor of Social Work:


The Bachelor of Social Work program at Portland State University invites applications for one Assistant, Associate or Full Professor tenure-track position. The position is a nine-month, full-time academic appointment. We seek applicants to teach in the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program with an interest and commitment to undergraduate education, service, and research and scholarship.


Master of Social Work:


The Master of Social Work program at Portland State University invites applications for two Assistant, Associate or Full Professor tenure-track positions. The positions are nine-month, full-time academic appointments. We seek applicants to teach in the Master of Social Work program (a) with a substantive focus on research and scholarship, teaching, and service in the area of social work practice in health care; (b) and with a substantive focus on social work practice in aging, immigration, and/or substance use.  


Interested candidates who demonstrate an ability and interest in participating in realizing and moving forward the mission, values, and vision of the School, particularly those with knowledge of and demonstrated commitment to racial equity and related frameworks are strongly encouraged to apply.


We primarily seek candidates with a strong commitment and background in student-centered pedagogy and engaged learning including experience teaching first-generation students and students from historically marginalized groups and including: Native American, African American, Latinx, LGBT and queer students, and students with disabilities. Ideal candidates will also have experience or evidence of skill and ability to teach and develop online courses.
