Position Summary: The mission of Children’s Aid is to help children in poverty succeed and thrive. Children’s Aid works with children, youth and their families in targeted low income communities from infancy through young adulthood, providing a range of services to meet physical, socio-emotional, educational and family stability needs. The P.O.W.E.R program funded by the NYS Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) seeks to educate children and youth on the dangers and consequences of alcohol and drug use. The P.O.W.E.R program delivers evidence based programs (EBP’s) counseling and positive alternatives to prevent and reduce alcohol and substance use utilizing the prevention framework.

The Prevention Manager will implement and oversee the P.OW.E.R. Program. The Prevention Manager will manage all of the prevention programs at their designated site including Strengthening Families programs (SFP). The Prevention Manager will oversee the P.O.W.E.R team and coordinate trainings, meetings, special work groups, and support staff with the preparation and debrief of group and activities.

Responsibilities:

·       Set the vision and direction of the prevention programs at site level and guide P.O.W.E.R. staff through strategic changes, motivate and empower staff to take action and ownership of the program

·       Actively collaborate with Center Director to develop clear, data-driven plans for the coordination and delivery of programs, supports and services that meet the needs of program participants

·       Work in collaboration with the Center Director and the Director of Prevention Programs to research, identify and select Evidence-Based Programs (EBPs) based on data and needs of program participants

·       Collect and monitor data in OASAS WITNYS

·       Collect and monitor prevention counseling participant files

·       Collaborate with the Director of Prevention Programs to ensure contract compliance, contribute to reports, including input to OASAS and monitor programs outcomes and evaluations

·       Supervise prevention staff and facilitate regular staff meetings that support team building, communication and collaboration among staff. Work with staff to provide individual counseling, interventions and make referrals as needed

·       Organize trainings and other professional development opportunities for staff

·       Participate in on-going trainings and professional development provided by Children’s Aid and outside agencies to strengthen practice

·       Work closely with the Center Director on program budget and coordinate the ordering of supplies and meals for program

·       Collaborate with the outreach worker to ensure recruitment of participants for the program and ensure that enrollment goals are met

·       Organize and provide presentations to community agencies, schools and other stakeholders on prevention issues and services available

·       Work as a liaison between the center, transitional housing facilities and the community to support family programs

·       Adhere to the policies and procedures of Children’s Aid

·       Other duties as assigned


Qualifications: 

·       Credentialed Prevention Professional: CASAC, CPP, CPS, or QHP required

·       Bachelor’s Degree required and 3-5 years’ experience working with adolescents and families required

·       Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred

·       Proficient in Microsoft, Excel

·       Experience working in a leadership role in Prevention, Substance use and/or misuse

·       Proven track record using data to inform and improve practice linked to positive program outcomes
