ABOUT COMMUNITY ROOTS HOUSING

Our history is rooted in community.

What started in Capitol Hill in the 1970s was the idea that everyone should live affordably in their neighborhood, in their community. The idea grew, and we responded to housing needs in Belltown, the Central District, and neighborhoods beyond. While building and preserving affordable apartments, we focused on the people who lived there as well as in the surrounding neighborhood.

The Community Roots Housing Foundation (“the Foundation”) is a 501(c)(3) public charity mobilizing funds for, and co-located with, Community Roots Housing.

The Foundation team, with a modest staff of 6, executes the fundraising and communications strategies for the organization. In addition to securing annual fundraising revenues of approximately $1 million, the Foundation is also the backbone organization for a collaborative $33 million capital campaign called Rise Together. Alongside five community-based partner organizations, Rise Together has raised $26 million to date to support the construction of over 400 new affordable homes alongside space for community programs, health and human services, and local minority-owned businesses.
