Program Assistant


Founded in 2004, Urban Upbound is an innovative organization based in Long Island City, Queens that breaks cycles of poverty in New York City public housing neighborhoods. We help NYCHA residents access jobs, financial counseling, income supports, as well as become entrepreneurs and connections to capital via the Urban Upbound Federal Credit Union. In 2013, Urban Upbound launched the Jobs-Plus Astoria program to ensure a steady flow of job opportunities available to members of the Astoria Houses community. Every year, we put 200 residents to work in high-growth NYC industries, including technology, construction, and hospitality.


Become part of a rapidly growing organization! We are looking for a talented Program Assistant to take the Jobs-Plus program to the next level. The Program Assistant will report to the Assistant Director of the Jobs-Plus Astoria program and be responsible for providing general office support and customer service to members of the Jobs-Plus program.


Responsibilities


●       Providing general information regarding program objectives, services and requirements via phone, email, and in-person walk-ins;

●       Scheduling of member appointments and performing follow up on “no-shows”;

●       Managing multiple program calendars;

●       Ordering supplies, and issuing work-orders to facilities management personnel;

●       Maintaining an organized system of tracking, monitoring, and prioritizing tasks and projects in MS Office and Google Docs;

●       Creating, updating, and maintaining/organizing hard copy intake files and program records;

●       Assist with preparing workshops materials (e.g. photocopying, collating, stapling, etc.);

●       Working proactively and taking initiative to support the varying needs of the team and senior leadership;

●       Other tasks as assigned by Assistant Director and Urban Upbound leadership;


Qualifications


●       Bachelor’s degree required

●       1-2 years of work/internship experience in an office, human services, non-profit, or customer service areas preferred

●       Proficient in computer usage, MS Word, Internet-research, Google Apps, and social media tools

●       Strong project management skills, including managing competing priorities and meeting deadlines

●       Outcomes-driven, strong analytical skills with experience using data to inform programmatic decisions

●       Highly motivated, with proven capacity to work independently, take initiative, and thrive in high-paced entrepreneurial environment

●       Flexible, with availability to work a weeknight and occasional Saturdays

●       Bilingual Spanish a plus

●       Good sense of humor

●       Passion for social justice
