Founded by two experienced longtime educators, Brooklyn Independent opened its doors to its inaugural 6th grade cohort in fall 2019. Brooklyn Independent will double in size in the 2021-2022 school year, serving over eighty 6th -8th grade students. Our small school environment prioritizes a student body and community of educators and families who prioritize learning boldly, growing fiercely, and impacting others.

POSITION SUMMARY

Brooklyn Independent seeks a middle school Latin teacher for the 2021-2022 school year. As a start-up school, our most successful teachers demonstrate flexibility and strong willingness to participate and contribute in efforts beyond the classroom.

Latin teachers will create and teach rigorous, engaging lessons and have a willingness to implement hands-on application Latin projects. Teachers are also responsible for daily advisory, Community Meeting, and elective support. Latin teachers report directly to the Co-Heads of School.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Latin teacher will teach four periods of Latin on Tuesday and Thursday from 8:45 - 12:45.
  • Deep passion and commitment to Brooklyn Independent’s mission of racial justice
  • Deep passion for Latin and expertise in curriculum design
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Must have one year of teaching experience
  • Ability to create and implement projects in class
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to maintain strong, professional relationships in an environment where listening and feedback are highly valued 
  • Ability to be flexible, take initiative, and be adaptive to the demands of a start-up school
  • Commitment to communicate effectively and regularly with students and parents about progress 

COMPENSATION

  • The Latin Teacher will be paid $50 - $65 per class based on education and experience.
