Position:      Senior Grants Writer

Department:   Development

Reports to:    Director of Grants and Contracts

Hours:        Full-time

Salary:       $80,000 to $86,000

FLSA:         Exempt

Location:      On-site, with the potential for a hybrid schedule


Position Summary

The Senior Grants Writer will report to the Director of Grants and Contracts. The position will be responsible for researching, identifying and preparing responses to city, state and federal requests for proposals (RFPs), and preparing proposals and grant reports. The Senior Grants Writer will work on a five-person development team, working closely with the Chief Development Officer, Director of Institutional Giving and the Development and Grants Coordinator. In addition to the development team, the Senior Grants Writer will work with the program teams across the agency to collect necessary information on their programs' funding and reporting purposes.

Responsibilities

  • Alongside the Director of Grants and Contracts generation revenue streams for programs and services through timely submission of well-researched, well-written and well-documented grant proposals, taking a lead role when needed in many larger, more complex grant opportunities
  • Work with the Director of Grants and Contracts and Executive staff to manage donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategy for grants.
  • Works with the Director of Grants and Contracts to prioritize funding opportunities
  • Liaisons with program staff to develop solid understanding of organization’s programs, initiatives, and history
  • Work with the CFO and program staff to formulate budgets for proposals
  • Write progress reports to funders
  • Research and identify other federal grant programs that align with Union Settlement’s programs
  • Assist with making contacts related to fundraising, such as contacting other agencies for letters of support; contacting funders as needed to obtain/update information, promote Union Settlement and secure funding
  • Respond to internal and external inquiries on drafted and submitted proposals
  • Maintain records and reports related to grant opportunities, submissions, and reporting requirements
  • Adhere to funding agency requirements and meet deadlines
  • Assist in maintaining a grants calendar to monitor the application process and track deadlines
  • Assist with preparation for meetings such as the Board Meetings and Board Development Committee as necessary
  • Monitor paperwork and other related documents connected with grant-funded programming

Qualifications

  • Minimum of four years’ experience in grant writing, preferably with a non-profit social services institution.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related subject; masters degree preferred Required Skills:
  • Computer literacy: Excel, Word and experience with on-line research and resources required · Knowledge of social services field experience helpful
  • Donor database experience, preferably in Salesforce
  • Understanding of government portals is preferable, such as PASSPORTS to support the submission and reporting requirements
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Commitment to understanding and supporting the mission and goals of the organization;
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to represent the organization externally across a wide range of stakeholders and constituencies.
  • A solid understanding of social service programming and government contract-funded programs, and a demonstrated commitment to addressing the needs of individuals and families in underserved communities
