About Harness

Harness was founded by America Ferrera, Wilmer Valderrama, and Ryan Piers Williams as a gathering of friends in response to the 2016 presidential election and the following period of social upheaval. Since its founding, Harness has grown into a national, intersectional community of well-known artists, activists, and entertainment industry leaders that amplify the experiences of historically marginalized communities to reach millions of people. We work with a community of incredible storytellers, artists, and cultural influencers to harness their talent, passion, and platform to imagine and create a world where everyone has safety, opportunity, and dignity.


Position Overview: 

The Community Organizer develops and coordinates digital organizing strategies and on the ground cultural activations, to engage Native youth and increase the visibility of Native culture and issues. This position will galvanize community participation in Protect the Sacred (PTS) initiatives, and civic engagement campaigns that educate and empower Native young people throughout Indian Country. The Community Organizer will support the Protect The Sacred Founder and Program Manager, and the rest of the PTS team to maximize the skills, resources, and influence of the PTS network, as well as identify and guide collaborations within campaigns.


We are looking for someone that believes in the leadership of Native youth and young people of color and has a history of organizing youth in Indian Country. You are an innovative, collaborative, sharp thinker and doer who can mobilize communities and lead campaigns that shift culture and engage diverse communities to take action. You must also be committed to movement organizing that uplifts racial, civic, and gender justice.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Identify, recruit, motivate, and retain, a base of Native youth members and allies with strong leadership qualities through one-on-one meetings, community events, voter engagement, and other activities
  • Coordinate outreach recruitment and the engagement of coalition partners
  • Build Indigenous support for youth organizing projects and civic engagement campaigns
  • Plan and execute large scale mobilizations including on the ground actions under the direction of the Program Manager
  • Plan and execute media events including press interviews, actions, etc. under the direction of the Program Manager
  • Performs other duties as required to support Indigenous communities 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in youth organizing with communities of color and leading civic engagement campaigns
  • Proven track record of a commitment to social justice and serving the interests of Indigenous communities 
  • Familiarity, knowledge, and experience working with Indigenous communities 
  • Demonstrated knowledge in base building, volunteer recruitment, leadership, and organizing strategies
  • Experience or interest in arts, culture or storytelling is desired, but not required
  • Ability to train, lead, represent and motivate Native youth and youth of color
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to plan and implement strategic community support campaigns
  • Ability to carry-out goals and meet deadlines
  • Ability to establish and maintain good community relationships
  • Ability to lead and move groups through a process of gaining consensus on a desired outcome(s)


Reports to: Program Manager and Founder, Protect the Sacred

Schedule: Full time

Location: Remote (anywhere in the U.S.), some travel required

Salary: $60,000

Benefits: After 90 days, you will be eligible for fully-paid medical, vision, and dental as well as 401k benefits
