Legal Analyst

Summary: The Legal Analyst assists the General Counsel with drafting loan and grant agreements, preparing board governance materials and working with the compliance officer to monitor borrowers and grantees. The Legal Analyst will also be responsible for UMEZ website content and will take on some communications functions. 

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Include the following; other duties may be assigned. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

  •  Assist the General Counsel in drafting loan and grant agreements, amendments and modifications, and procurement documents  
  • Coordinate review of documents with the appropriate department of UMEZ  
  • Assist legal department with drafting correspondence to applicants and funded organizations as needed  
  •  Conduct research as needed to ensure governmental requirements are met for initiatives requiring permits, licensing or other governmental approvals  
  • Provide support to Compliance Officer by monitoring borrowers and grantees  
  • Communicate with borrowers and grantees regarding status of application and legal diligence items. 
  • Organize materials for UMEZ and BRISC board meetings  
  • Monitor, manage, and revise UMEZ website content  
  • Draft news announcements and blogs for UMEZ website as needed  
  • Staying current with economic, real estate, arts & culture and small business developments in the Upper Manhattan area. 

 BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE 

  • Bachelor’s degree required  
  • 3-5 years of experience in community economic development, lending, real estate finance, insurance or similar experience preferred.  
  • Exposure to New York City PASSPort process for vendors helpful, though not required.  
  • Experience with loan closings highly preferred.  
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written).  
  • Community residence and/or familiarity with Upper Manhattan community preferred.

Level of Language Proficiency

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals prepared in English. Spanish language would be an advantage but is not a requirement.
