About Us: New Haven Reads, founded to “share the joy and power of reading,” increases the literacy skills of children to empower their academic success by providing individually tailored one-on-one after-school tutoring, educational family support, and a community book bank, all at no cost to participants.

Job Summary: Assist the Education Director in maintaining an effective educational program consistent with the vision and mission of New Haven Reads.

Major Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

Administration –

  • Maintain all calendars related to the Education program
  • Maintain all required data related to Yale Reading Corps, Experience Corps tutors and Summer Interns, as well as other affiliate groups
  • Monitor accuracy and timeliness of data and reporting associated with Planning and Placement Team meetings (PPTs) in Sales Force and student information in Lexia
  • Maintain the Salesforce Wait List for Pre-K/K and Tutoring
  • Responsible for network notification of weather related closings
  • Creation of Site Director meeting agendas
  • Maintain updated staff emergency contact information, including the addition of new employees

Communication –

  • Effective, timely, and professional communication with students, parents, staff, and school officials

Program –

  • Assist with the design, development, and implementation of programs
  • Covering for the Education Director and staff as needed
  • Attend PPT meetings as needed
  • Interview candidates for college positions (Yale Reading Corps, Summer Interns)
  • Assist with CORE Testing
  • Assist with Tutor Trainings
  • Work collaboratively with the Pre-K/K Program Director to plan curriculum, direct staff, communicate with parents, and register students

And other duties as assigned by the Education Director.

This position REQUIRES:

  • College degree in area of education
  • One year minimum of experience teaching in a K-12 classroom
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize with limited supervision
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to organize, analyze, and problem solve
  • Attention to detail
  • Flexibility
  • Sensitivity to confidential student information

  • 11am-7pm, Monday-Friday, but schedule may vary based upon need
