The Opportunity.

The Guest Services and Retail Assistant Manager for the deCordova Museum Store will support the Guest Service and Retail Manager (Manager) in the overall daily management of the retail space and ensure customer satisfaction by providing exceptional service, sales and promotion of merchandise, and managing floor staff effectively. This position regularly and customarily supervises at least two sales associates. 

 

In This Role You Will: 

  • Assist the Manager with executing the Store’s merchandising plan to meet target revenue goals. Research and gain knowledge of merchandise stocked in the deCordova Store. 
  • Assist Manager in receiving and stocking merchandise through the Point of Sales (P.O.S.) system. 
  • Responsible for the daily supervision of sales staff and coverage of the sales floor. Provides training to new sales associates on policies, procedures and merchandise features and benefits. 
  • Participates in the interviewing and selection of sales staff and makes hiring recommendations. 
  • Provides performance feedback on sales staff to the Manager and makes recommendations for additional training based on needs as well as disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment. 
  • Work extensively on sales floor with staff to provide direct sales to customers. 
  • Operate the Point of Sales (POS) cash register system for sales transactions, returns and inventory control. 
  • Ensure the visual appeal of the merchandise displays and rotate and/or create new product displays when needed. 
  • Ensure the security of all Museum property and inventory in the Store and report any issues to the Manager immediately. 
  • Assist visitors and customers with information regarding the Park and Museum and all its programming.  
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Level of Language Proficiency

Education and Experience: 

  • Previous experience supervising a sales staff as well as experience providing customer service in retail environment required. Prior cash handling experience needed. 
  • Previous experience with retail computer system preferred. Must have PC skills, including experience with the Microsoft Office Suite. Shopify experience a plus.  
  • Previous experience managing and motivating others and providing clear direction and corrective guidance when necessary. 
  • Desire and ability to learn new information and skills, team oriented and have a positive attitude. 

 

Skills/Qualifications: 

  • Personable with clear and effective communication. 
  • Excellent customer service skills. Interest and willingness to build customer relationships.  
  • Interest in and knowledge of contemporary art and design trends. 

 

Other: 

  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods, and to move and handle boxes of merchandise and fixtures throughout the store. Entails lifting up to 40 pounds and ability to perform all functions as set forth above. 
  • Ability to work a 40 hours per week schedule that occasionally includes nights, weekends and holidays as well as the ability to work additional hours as needed.
