Position summary

The Vice President, Operations & Strategy provides leadership, vision and management for all strategy, administrative, financial, human resources and information systems functions of Philanthropy Ohio. The person holding this position serves as member of the Leadership Team, leads the activities of the administration and technology team to ensure the efficient execution of daily operations, supervises 1 FTE position. This is a full-time exempt position that reports to the President & CEO and is based in the Columbus office.


Responsibilities

Leadership (15%)

  • As part of the Leadership Team, build acumen about the strategic framework (advocating, convening and educating, all with an equity lens) and help craft, direct and implement overall strategic work of the organization


Membership Engagement and Development (30%)

  • Work with the President & CEO, the Membership Engagement Committee and Future Growth Strategies subcommittee to develop strategies to assure revenue streams that support Philanthropy Ohio’s vision and mission including membership recruitment & retention, membership dues and other revenue sources
  • Staff the Membership Engagement Committee
  • Create and manage the revenue development plan, including all grant requests, reports and related materials
  • Maintain primary relationships with members as assigned by the Customer Relationship Management plan


Financial Management (30%)

  • Maintain relationship with outsourced finance and accounting consultants and oversee all functions including accounting systems, accounts receivables and payables, budget management, payroll, projections, internal controls, project and program reporting, and risk management
  • Under general direction from the Finance Committee and the President & CEO and in partnership with outsourced controller, maintain primary contact with outside investment managers and implement investments within POH’s policies and guidelines
  • Responsible for development of the long term strategic and annual budget plan to insure sustainability of the organization
  • Oversee the annual financial audit and 990 preparation process. Maintain relationship with independent auditors and
  • File all state and federal registrations and reports as required by law
  • Staff the Finance Committee
  • Staff the Audit Committee, ensuring the annual audit and 990 process is fully transparent to committee members
  • Oversee analysis of financial and operational data to increase knowledge of Philanthropy Ohio’s business, member engagement and member satisfaction


Human Resources (10%)

  • Maintain relationship with outsourced HR consultant to coordinate HR functions including the employee selection process and the personnel administration program including personnel policies, employee benefits plan and maintenance of personnel records
  • Assist the President & CEO with employee performance and salary review process


Information Technology (10%)

  • Lead the identification and implementation of technology-based strategies for advancing organizational objectives
  • Supervise Manager, Technology & CRM Administrator to oversee technology/communication systems and Salesforce and ensure its effective use by staff
  • Work with outside service providers to support and maintain the systems, network, and technology needs of POH


Administration (5%)

  • Review all contracts for services, including those for consultants, events, programs, and conference sites according to policies in the POH Accounting Manual
  • Develop and submit RFPs for outsourced services; select vendors and manage vendor relationships
  • Oversee office facilities including leases, subleases, space planning, equipment and furnishings
  • Maintain the legal records of POH according to POH Document Retention Plan


Preferred qualifications for this position

  • Bachelor’s degree, advanced degree preferred
  • 5 years nonprofit management experience
  • Familiarity with membership association management and public policy
  • Knowledge of nonprofit financial and accounting principles and practices
  • Knowledge of human resource functions including benefits and hiring
  • Knowledge of IT functions including both software and hardware
  • Experience with financial and data analysis
  • Familiarity with QuickBooks and Excel
  • Detail-oriented professional able to initiate, research and move projects successfully to their completion
  • High degree of confidentiality, integrity and diplomacy
  • Outstanding record of accomplishment, proven leadership ability
  • Superior organizational, interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Experience managing information systems, project management, budget development and monitoring, data analysis, relational database design and management

The salary range for this position is $95,000 - $115,000. In addition, Philanthropy Ohio offers a generous benefits package including medical, dental and vision insurance; 15 days paid vacation in first year; paid sick leave; retirement benefits; and a collegial work environment.
