Over 19,000 trained volunteers deliver programs that provide opportunities for creative expression, socialization, intellectual stimulation, and sensory integration — ensuring childhood remains a place of wonder. Project Sunshine partners with over 400 medical facilities across the U.S. and in four international locations, serving more than 175,000 pediatric patients and families.

In 2020 we expanded to deliver a third channel of program, TelePlay, which provides live, interactive play and activities over Zoom. For the first time we are able to serve children and families directly, in addition to our partnerships with hospitals around the world. 

Position Description

The Director of International programs is responsible for the oversight and operations of Project Sunshine’s programs in Canada, China, Kenya and Israel. The Director of International Programs will directly manage staff, contractors and lead volunteers within each location, ensuring the overall success of the programs while guaranteeing Project Sunshine standards and best practices are implemented globally. The Director is ultimately responsible for setting program strategy, managing resources, setting and maintaining budgets in each country, and ensuring proper governance in accordance with local laws. 

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director will work closely with US-based colleagues to develop program standards and procedures, create marketing and disseminate messaging to the global teams. The Director often serves as the US liaison for the International Team, ensuring international colleagues needs are communicated broadly and support is secured. This is a wonderful opportunity for those interested in international relations, public health and cross-cultural communications

The Director will work closely with the Director of Development to safeguard the financial health of the International programs. This includes supporting on grant writing, insuring data reporting from international satellites is accurate and timely, managing donor relationships, annual grant reporting, generating content for donor updates, and fulfilling grant requirements.

The Director manages the Board of Directors for both Project Sunshine Canada and Project Sunshine Israel, and provides updates to the US-based Program Committee, which a sub committee of the Project Sunshine Inc Board.

Principle Responsibilities

•        Provide leadership and vision for ensuring ongoing development of quality programs internationally.

•        Develop and implement program strategy and goals with an eye to resource allocation

•        Manage (remotely) a diverse team of colleagues in each of our international program location

•        Liaise with the Board of Directors for both Project Sunshine Israel and Project Sunshine Canada

•        Financial oversight, including budgeting, bill paying and vendor selection

•        Oversee programmatic data gathering, analysis and reporting for both Saleforce and CommCare systems

•        Periodically review and update health curriculum with an eye to age-appropriate, child-centric learning methods and techniques

•        Conduct regular on-site program visits and evaluations with an emphasis on ensuring safety of volunteers and staff and maintaining Project Sunshine’s high level of quality programming.

Level of Language Proficiency

Qualifications

·        6+ years in a non-profit, government or NGO either in social services, international relations, public health or another related field

·        Experience working internationally preferred

·        Experience managing culturally and linguistically diverse teams, especially those that are fully remote

·        Ability to communicate and interact effectively with diverse constituencies while displaying excellent intercultural skills

·        Excellent organizational, analytical and problem-solving abilities

·        Ability to work in a collegial, fast-paced environment

·        Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

·        Ability to work independently and flexibly across different time zones

·        Enthusiasm for Project Sunshine’s mission.
