Organization Background

Given the serious threat to progressive values across Florida, Equal Ground Education Fund/Action Fund has begun an effort to engage the rising American Electorate through civic engagement activities with a goal to build and expand current capacity in Black communities. ​We will be hiring staff to implement a plan in support of this effort.

Mission: Within communities of color, we advise, empower, and evaluate political representation to create vital change through civic engagement, strategic planning, and social impact. We train, mobilize, and educate because we believe that an engaged community is a powerful community. 

Position Summary

County Manager will be based in counties throughout the state and applicants located in Orange County are encouraged to apply. The position will require some limited travel within the state. You will be responsible for building a robust volunteer and grassroots organizing operation, engaging in coalition-building activities, coordinating with key stakeholders, and managing paid outreach staff within your assigned region. Responsibilities may grow to include managing a team and a paid canvass operation. This position may require frequent travel throughout your assigned county.

Description of Duties

  • Work with existing Equal Ground Education/Action Fund infrastructure to implement county and regional plans
  • Build and manage digital/in-person engagement events and actions such as volunteer distributed phone banks, online training, and community forums around priority issues
  • Recruit, train, and manage volunteers with the aim of building teams capable of operating independently
  • Meet and exceed programmatic metrics and goals
  • Conduct outreach to local community leaders and progressive organizations
  • Draft rapid response communication to include text message campaigns, newsletters, social media posts, LTE’s and Op-Ed’s
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience in community organizing, direct voter contact activities, legislative, public affairs, or policy‑oriented environment including issue or electoral campaigns, advocacy, or related experience.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills and strong knowledge of your local community.
  • Experience working and effectively developing leadership within historically marginalized communities.
  • Self-motivation, professionalism, and a positive demeanor.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and analytical skills.
  • Extremely organized.
  • Knowledge of Google Suite.
  • Ability to work outside of typical business hours, including nights and weekends.
  • Committed to details, results, and consistent improvement.
  • Experience with NGP VAN / Votebuilder is a plus.
  • Experience creating or utilizing virtual training materials 
  • Experience creating or utilizing train-the-trainer curriculum 
  • A strong commitment to Equal Ground Education/Action Fund ideals and issues

Location:  Remotely from Orange County, FL

Compensation: This position pays $48,000 annually plus benefits. 

Logistics

  • Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable mode of transportation, and the ability to travel at times throughout the county
  • Must have access to a working smartphone 
  • Must have the ability to regularly lift and carry 25 lbs.
