Title: Case Manager-Linden Houses (Full-Time)   

Supervisor: Program Director

For 130 years, University Settlement has been an anchor in the low-income and immigrant communities where we work, offering pioneering programs in early childhood care and education, youth development, eviction prevention, literacy, theater and visual arts, senior services, and mental health. Each year, we engage over 40,000 New Yorkers through our network of 29 sites in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Our mission is to empower residents by building on their strengths through comprehensive, quality services that meet the current needs of the community; innovation that anticipates future needs; and advocacy to improve the community as a whole.

Project Home is a blended program that combines the following services: homelessness prevention for families and individuals at-risk of eviction; support for general short-term housing and social services; and leadership development and advocacy group. The Case Manager provides direct services to families and individuals dealing with a wide range of housing issues including temporary relocation, lease concerns, lack of tenants’ rights information, and maintenance of housing subside to name a few. Direct services include tenants’ rights counseling, landlord /tenant mediation, advocacy to secure/maintain benefits and entitlements, and crisis intervention.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct tenant survey, intake, and on-going assessment to understand tenants’ needs and plan next steps to address housing and social service concerns
  • Coordinate with Project Home and Stanley Avenue Development Partners for quality control and integration of services
  • Assist with programmatic outreach and community education around housing restructure
  • Provide social service referrals, crisis intervention, and counseling
  • Conduct outreach to participants and community organizations
  • Document all services provided to clients in writing via Salesforce; keep client files up to date; and provide regular statistical reporting on outcomes
  • Assist in designing documents or forms for record-keeping and outreach purposes; assist in program planning, evaluation, and community events
  • Assist in outreach and implementation of special projects related to community development and agency advocacy 
  • Perform other tasks consistent with this job description as assigned by the Director 

Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s degree (Social Work or related major preferred, but not required)
  • Bi-lingual Spanish and or Mandarin (preferred, but not required)
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Organization and follow-through
  • Knowledge of community based social services and social welfare systems in New York City a plus
  • Ability to work within a culturally diverse community and as part of a team
  • Tenacious advocacy skills and a commitment to “case to cause” direct services perspective

Hours: 35 hours/week, generally business hours but flexibility required for emergency services.

Location: East New York-Brooklyn, N.Y.

Salary: Low 40s plus generous benefits package
