Description

The National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET), a division of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), is a nationally recognized professional certification organization. NICET offers more than a dozen specialty certifications in the fields of Fire Protection, Transportation, Construction Materials Testing and more. The career track certification provides credentialing for entry to senior level technicians and is measure of qualifications relied on by authorities having jurisdiction, government entities, employers and contract specifiers.

 

DESCRIPTION

 

The Associate Certification Test Developer assists NICET in the development and maintenance of fair, valid, reliable and legally defensible certification programs. The ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment, managing multiple projects with competing deadlines is essential. A successful candidate will be expected to:

 

JOB PROCESSES:

  1. Assist with the development of new certification programs and maintenance of existing programs.
  2. Follow the progress of assigned test development and maintenance projects, ensure that all assigned tasks have been completed according to NICET standards.
  3. Assist with the recruitment of subject matter experts (SMEs).
  4. Understand and apply style guides. Update and maintain program-specific style guides.
  5. Assist with the facilitation of meetings, monitor progress, and prepare meeting reports as needed.
  6. Assist with the management of item writing workshops and item review sessions, ensuring that SMEs are properly trained.
  7. Monitor test banks and edit test items to ensure that the item-editing process is completed in a timely manner, that content fits and fulfills approved test specifications, and that form and structure is consistent with psychometric standards, NICET standards, and American English standards of grammar and spelling.
  8. Confirm that complete and accurate information about test items has been recorded in the test banking software.
  9. Confirm that graphics are clear, owner-approved for use, and links to items have been correctly entered.
  10. Confirm the identification, approval, and listing of reference/resource materials. Confirm needed information in technical source materials.
  11. Monitor test bank statuses and perform quality control checks.
  12. Assist with the publishing of tests and assist with the resolution of test QA issues.
  13. Assist with the preparation of NICET’s database for test publication and perform/verify necessary data entry.
  14. Prepare written materials as needed in support of NICET marketing and other related functions
  15. Provide guidance to stakeholders on the use of NICET certification programs.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned.

  1. Strong organizational skills to work effectively in a team setting on concurrent processes and projects to meet established goals, deadlines, and quality standards. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  2. Ability to write, analyze, and edit technical test questions and other materials for clarity, cognitive level, and appropriateness of technical content.
  3. Ability to utilize relevant information in style guides and technical resource materials.
  4. Strong spelling and proofreading skills with excellent attention to detail.
  5. Ability to write collateral program materials for print and web.
  6. Ability to make effective presentations to stakeholder groups.
  7. Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with staff, volunteers, and stakeholders to accomplish NICET goals and objectives.
  8. Solid computer software skills, including database, internet, email, word processing, item authoring, and banking applications.
  9. Ability to travel occasionally.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Science, Communications, or other related specialty with course work in technical writing and minimum of one-year work experience in educational and/or certification test development preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Experience in proofreading and editing.


Experience working with committees and volunteers preferred.
