Working Partnerships USA

Job Announcement: We are looking for a Grant Writer; Ambassador of Good; Prophet/ess of the Written Word!

Working Partnerships USA is a community organization bringing together the power of grassroots organizing and public policy innovation to drive the movement for a just economy.

Do you want to see a world where all workers have good jobs providing a better quality of life for them and their families, all of us can afford a safe and stable home, and corporations are working with communities to build resilient and healthy cities? So do we! Based in Silicon Valley, we tackle the root causes of inequality and poverty by leading collaborative campaigns for quality jobs, healthy communities, equitable growth, and a democracy that works for all. We do not know how to sit still: we also co-founded Silicon Valley Rising, Gig Workers Rising, the Fair Workplace Collaborative, and the Santa Clara County COVID Assistance Network (CAN).

We are searching for a motivated and detail-oriented writer and storyteller to join our small but mighty Development team. Are you our next Grant Writer?

  • You enjoy writing and know how to write compelling and coherent letters, proposals and reports that always meet deadlines.
  • As a top applicant, you also have strong project management skills (check out the lyrics to “Don’t Stop Me Now” for clues on how you work) and know when and how to coordinate and communicate your work with others.
  • You are a team player and know how to “manage up” to support your lead. You understand that you report directly to the Development Director and learn to work collaboratively with our executive, communications, policy, organizing, and finance/administrative team members to effectively drive our foundation and corporate fundraising.
  • You are well organized and take pride in making sure that all team members can easily find up to date prospect, funder, and grants information in our database.

In between besting Grammarly and watching reruns of Mission Organization, your core responsibilities will be to:

  • Ensure the timely completion of your responsibilities to prepare, write, submit, and manage successful grant proposals to foundation and corporate sources.
  • Research foundation and corporate funders to evaluate and communicate prospects for new and to renew existing foundation and corporate grants.
  • Work with finance team members to gather and prepare information needed for proposals, reports, and other inquiries from our funders.
  • Keep us up to date, organized, and in compliance with funder’s requirements and clearly communicate reporting requirements to development and program teams.
  • Understand our organization’s history, mission, campaigns, and programs.
  • Make appointments for Executive Director with foundation officers and arrange other onsite and other meetings or visits for foundation and corporate funder staff.
  • Maintain our funder contacts and grants database including tracking all submissions, correspondence, and payments.
  • Manage foundation and corporate fundraising statistics relevant to development and prepare updates on our performance for team meetings.
  • Effectively manage up to your lead, the Development Director, ensuring their success, anticipating their needs, being a resource for them, and effectively communicating priorities, opportunities, and challenges.
  • Provide assistance to fundraise and produce our annual fundraising event, Champions for Change, as needed.
  • Provide additional support to the executive director, other executive team members and the board as needed

Essential Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated commitment to racial equity, immigrant rights, economic justice, and dignified life for all people.
  • Alignment and agreement with Working Partnerships USA’s mission and values
  • At least three years experience as part of a development or fundraising team, writing successful funding applications raising at least $500,000, and writing reports for funders or external reviewers.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills with demonstrated experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to work as part of a team and provide administrative support to executive and development teams.
  • Understanding of basic financial information including reading and developing budgets.
  • Ability to work under pressure; judgement and confidence to identify when to ask for help.
  • Strong proficiency in computer skills and digital literacy.
