Founded in 1974, Illinois Humanities is a non-profit, state council of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Our mission is to strengthen the social, political, and economic fabric of Illinois through constructive conversation and community engagement. We set out to accomplish this mission through grantmaking, humanities-based educational programs, and public programming and exhibitions in the areas of public policy, arts, media & journalism, and the economy. 

In this full-time position for the Loop Office, the Advancement Coordinator assists in the management and execution of Illinois Humanities’ fundraising efforts—including research, cultivation, and stewardship—in the areas of: individual giving; event-based fundraising; and grantseeking.

The Advancement Coordinator coordinates appeal campaigns among the Board, donors, and prospects and is also responsible for maintaining gift, constituent, and proposal records in the fundraising database and ensuring accurate records. The Coordinator takes a primary role in the logistics of Illinois Humanities signature fundraising event—the Public Humanities Award Luncheon, and supports the Director of Advancement in developing a growing individual giving program. The Coordinator also provides administrative support to the Advancement Manager, whose principal role is foundation and corporate fundraising. 

What You Will Offer:

  • Overall grasp and knowledge of the philanthropic community 
  • Proven track record with non-profit fundraising; demonstrated ability to conduct research 
  • Familiarity with analyzing data
  • MS Office Suite
  • Experience with Constituent Relationship Management databases, preferably the Raiser’s Edge
  • Digital design experience a plus
  • Experience with, and preference for, working in a growing advancement department
  • Previous experience supporting a Board of Directors as fundraisers preferred 
  • Special events experience
  • Grants experience required
  • Strong attention to detail


  • Salary range from $36,000 to $45,000

Work Environment:

  • Main office in Chicago’s Loop is fully accessible. Work at off-site locations is required and those may not necessarily be fully accessible 
  • Evening and weekend work is required and a flexible work week is allowed 
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and scanners. Employee is regularly required to communicate effectively via computer and phone
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds
  • Smoke- and drug-free environment
