What is the Role?

The Director of After School manages the day-to-day operations and serves as the supervisor for all CIP After School program sites. It is recommended that the After School Director has previous experience working with children and/or running and after school and should be capable of leading an intergenerational staff. The Director of After School should be committed to the goals of the program, able to work collaboratively with all program constituents and be familiar with the culture and dynamics of the community.  The Director of After School will be hired by and report to the Director of Family & Community Engagement.

What You’ll Be Asked To Do

  • Serve in a supervisory capacity for the Project Coordinators, reporting to the Director of Family and Community Engagement (DFACE).
  • Manage and implement systems to ensure efficiency and effectiveness at each site
  • Work with DFACE to establish and maintain community partnerships to support successful implementation of programs 
  • Coordinate first aid (mental and physical health) training and materials to staff in coordination w/ Compliance Manager 
  • Create inventory list for each site, submit POs and work with Program Coordinators to check inventory upon receipt and notify DFACE of any discrepancies and/or needs. 
  • Works with DFACE and Director of Finance to hold monthly budget meetings to provide updates
  • Maintain the safety of all staff and scholars, which includes but is not limited to the following: 
  • Guarantee onsite safety procedures and protocols are in compliance with CIP/The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines. 
  • Communicate and confirm that all staff, scholars, and parents have an understanding of site guidelines. 
  • Monitor attendance reports and follow-up on individual site issues related to attendance, enrollment and contract compliance issues.
  • Deliver specific qualitative assessments of all aspects of the programs
  • Plan the end-of-session celebrations (every 6-8 weeks—typically 3-4 per school year) (with Program Coordinator)
  • Respond to inquiries from parents and students regarding program offerings, attendance, and registration procedure
  • Ensures all programs are compliant with DYCD, DOE and DOHMH regulations, timelines and are staying abreast of all local, state and federal pandemic management conditions and requirements

Who are we?

Coney Island Prep is a college preparatory public charter school in Brooklyn, New York. Merging growth, performance, and commitment, the Coney Island Prep community takes its responsibility to prepare students for the college and career of their choice very seriously, but not ourselves. We balance our sense of ownership and responsibility with humility and levity and support each other every step of the way. Coney Island Prep currently serves over 1,000 scholars across its four schools, including:

  • 200 scholars in kindergarten – second grade at the lower elementary school
  • 220 scholars in third – fifth grade at the upper elementary school
  • 280 scholars in sixth – eighth grades at the middle school
  • 340 scholars in ninth-twelfth grade at the high school
