NYC SALT’s mission is to engage, inspire, and empower youth from low-income, predominantly immigrant communities in New York City to reach their full potential through photography and video instruction. Our vision is to restore great visual art instruction for New York high school students and make the arts and especially creativity an important component of their preparation for academic and career success. We achieve these goals through an innovative model that combines rigorous, sequential visual art instruction taught by well-known artists and highly-experienced creative industry professionals, along with individualized mentoring, college preparation, career exploration, placement in internships, and job readiness training.

NYC Salt is seeking a Chief of Staff who will work closely with the Founder & Chief Executive Officer in providing leadership and oversight for the organization’s day-to-day operations and future growth. The Chief of Staff will play a multi-faceted role with key internal and external-facing responsibilities, including thought-leadership, staff development & management, operational strategy development, oversight of finance & operations. The Chief of Staff will serve as a key advisor & partner to the CEO as they chart the organization’s next phase of programmatic growth and impact. NYC Salt is a nimble, fast paced environment where the work evolves quickly and no day is the same as before.
The ideal candidate for this role will handle complex situations and multiple responsibilities simultaneously, balancing long-term projects with the urgency of immediate demands of a small and growing team. They must have the demonstrated ability to build and lead a team, manage both internal and external stakeholder relationships and drive measurable results.
In response to COVID-19, our staff has mostly been working remotely since March. Our office is open for use and available to safely work from. We will continue to evaluate on a monthly and individual basis on the best options for where we are working - either virtual, in the office or a hybrid of the two - until it is safe for everyone to return to in person work in the office full time.
Strategic Planning & Growth – Serve as a key confidante and thought partner to the CEO to operationalize NYC Salt’s strategic vision. Assist in design of resource development plan to achieve organizational growth targets. Co-lead and support strategic revenue generation efforts to secure an annual budget of $1.2 million in funding by 2022.
Team Building – Work to achieve the CEO’s vision of building a dynamic team of staff and board members committed to carrying NYC Salt’s mission forward. After working closely with the CEO on multi-year strategy, design and implement hiring plan to achieve the strategy’s goals. Manage staff day-to-day and drive team toward achievement of goals.
Board Activation – Serve as the official liaison between the organization and its board of directors. Work closely cultivate individual board member relationships and oversee the expansion of other volunteer groups, such as the Associate Board and Advisory Board.
Finance & Operations - Manage the day-to-day operations of the organization. Through the strategy design, work to identify and secure internal and external accounting, finance and facilities management resources to ensure the organization maintains sounds financial standing.
The ideal candidate will be someone who skillfully navigates ambiguity and thrives in a fast-paced growth environment, and welcomes feedback and learning. They will have experience within a scaling organization and building the necessary structures & systems to enable programmatic and organizational growth. They must be flexible and have the finesse to handle complex situations and multiple responsibilities within a small, but growing organization. They must possess exceptional judgment and communication skills, and exhibit the skills to collaborate with and achieve actionable results through others, the ability to build strong and sustainable relationships, and the capability to interact within all levels of the organization and with external constituents. Additional requirements include:

• 5 years minimum of aligned professional experience with a verifiable track record of achieving excellence and outcomes.

• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with ability to explain complex concepts clearly, adapting the messages for a range of audiences
• Excellent relationship building skills and good sense of humor
• Experience with financial management and strategic planning and team building

• Someone who can improv and support out of the box thinking
• Bachelor’s Degree
