Reports To: Director, Foundation and Government Philanthropy

The Manager of Foundation and Government Philanthropy researches and prepares grants for current and prospective funders to formally seek funding on behalf of the agency. The Manager of Foundation and Government Philanthropy must be an excellent researcher who not only sources prospective funders whose grants align with the agency’s mission and goals, but also must be an astute writer who knows how to craft a compelling case for support that will appeal to the funder. Duties include, but are not limited to

  • Conceptualizes, develops, researches, and writes grant proposals to foundations, government entities and other grant-making organizations. 
  • Improves proposal-writing results by evaluating and re-designing processes, approach, coordination, and cases for support.
  • Develops knowledge of local, regional and national landscape, including performing research about youth homelessness, participating in educational opportunities and maintaining personal networks.
  • Coordinates and hosts meetings and site visits with funders.
  • Conducts ongoing prospect research to identify new funding opportunities.
  • Builds and develops relationships with new and existing funders to lead to increased giving and deeper engagement with the agency.
  • Meet or exceed revenue goals with an eye toward long-term sustainable growth.
  • Maintain grant acknowledgment and administrative processes, including processing new grant awards, ensuring prompt acknowledgement of gifts, creating and maintaining post-grant award documentation, and facilitating post-award meetings as needed. 

As a member of the External Relations and Philanthropy team this position is expected to contribute to all department activities, and to provide ongoing leadership, guidance, and support to achieve project, team, and agency goals.

Core Qualifications:

·      Experience writing, securing, and reporting on foundation grants

·      Experience managing the relationships associated with the grants

·      Experience reporting metrics and outcomes

·      Outstanding written and interpersonal communications

·      Ability to prioritize, project manage and consistently meet deadlines

·      Ability to manage multiple projects and assignments with excellent organization, attention to detail, flexibility, and a sense of humor

·      Ability to work both independently and in team settings

·      Commitment to Ignite’s mission, specifically, and social justice, in general

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Media, or related field
  • Minimum of 1-year experience in grant writing, prospect research, general fundraising or a minimum of 2 years comparable and transferable skills acquired in a professional setting
