Program Description: The Moore Community House Women in Construction (WinC) pre-apprenticeship job training program is designed to train women for careers in apprenticeship and nontraditional occupations to support industry with qualified skilled workers. Moore Community House has been supporting families in Biloxi, MS, since 1924, and the Women In Construction Program began in 2008 in response to the needs after Hurricane Katrina, when workers were needed to rebuild the coast and women needed good paying recovery jobs. The strategy of this program is to create a pathway for women to pursue careers that earn wages to promote self-sufficiency and improve the outreach, training/placement, and retention of women in apprenticeship and nontraditional occupations while supporting them throughout this pathway through comprehensive services. By using innovative techniques, this program exposes women to a nontraditional pathway that meets the demands of industry in Mississippi.

The Women in Construction Program provides career and technical training through which participants receive industry- recognized credentials that qualifies them for employment in the construction, skilled craft trades and advanced manufacturing industries. Additionally, Women in Construction is an excellent resource for employers to find and employ qualified applicants to meet diversity, minority and female hiring needs. WinC not only increases the number of women participating in apprenticeship and nontraditional occupations, but also positively impacts the economic condition of the communities in which women live, work, and raise families. WinC respects and honors equity and diversity within our program and community.
