Friendship Bridge is an international social enterprise with a mission to create opportunities that empower Guatemalan women to build a better life. The organization provides microfinance, education and health services to primarily rural, indigenous populations.


The Global Communications Manager is a key member of the Global Communications and Partnerships Team. This unique position oversees all communications and marketing to US and Guatemalan audiences which include staff, clients, investors/stakeholders and media. The Global Communications Manager creates and oversees the implementation of the annual communications and marketing plans in order to keep staff informed and motivated, gain international exposure, and increase the number of Friendship Bridge clients, as well as international donor and volunteer support of Friendship Bridge’s mission.  Reports to: Vice President, Global Communications and Partnerships

Positions reporting to the Global Communications Manager: Internal Communications Coordinator (based in Guatemala), US Marketing Coordinator (based in US), and Client Communications Coordinator (based in Guatemala).


International Communications & Marketing

●    Create and implement 2018 Communications Plan. Ensure all branches, Central Office, and US Office are in-line with annual plan. Ensure plans correspond with annual revenue goals.

International Stakeholder Communications

●    Manage US Marketing Coordinator to execute communication plan through digital, print, and event marketing.

●    Oversee all external branding and storytelling to international stakeholders including artisan promotions, organization’s website (both in English and Spanish), media pitches, social media outlets, and event messaging.

●    Work with US Marketing Coordinator and Client Communications Coordinator to identify and create international fundraising and awareness campaigns featuring clients’ stories.

●    Work with US Marketing Coordinator to develop relationships with US media and to identify stories that are appropriate for each outlet.

●    Work with Client Communications Coordinator to develop relationships with Guatemala media and identify stories that are appropriate for each outlet.

Client Communications

●    Manage Client Communications Coordinator to execute communication plan through digital, print, event marketing, and the media.

●    Oversee Client Communications Coordinator in their management of client story collection for investors, in particular Kiva, Capital Sisters and major funders.

●    Work with branch management and Central Office team to ensure promotional needs are met in order to exceed revenue goals.

●    Provide guidance on how to improve client communications and channels in order to ensure our value proposition is clearly understood and communicated internally and to clients.



Internal Communications

●    Create 2018 internal communications plan.

●    With support from Human Resources and IT, design and launch the new company intranet.

●    Manage Internal Communications Coordinator to execute internal communications plan that meets the organizational objectives and aligns with external messages.

With the Internal Communications Coordinator, provide advice and guidance on the full range of existing internal communications channels, and develop new ideas that boost morale, unify staff, and keep them informed.


Organizational Initiatives

●    Project Management of the 2018 Re- Branding strategy.

●    Support President & CEO on presentations and communications.

●    Work with management team members to achieve revenue goals and develop strategies to meet the organization's needs.

●    Remain current on the details of Friendship Bridge programming in order to identify and accurately describe programs.

●    Prepare and manage Global Communications Budget.

●    Public speaking at events to present on the activities of Friendship Bridge, as well as participation in donor visits to Guatemala.



Fluency in Spanish and English is required. Additional Mayan languages are a plus.

Minimum 10 years of marketing and communications experience.

Strong writer with demonstrated experience in writing in English and Spanish.

Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, email marketing services, and CRM software.

Knowledge of microcredit is a plus but not required.

Experience with and contacts in media and public relations.

Self-starter who is willing to lead projects.

Flexible, with an ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously within budget, deadlines and changing priorities.

Results-oriented, excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Flexibility to work cross culturally.

Knowledge of marketing and communications best practices.

Willingness to travel and occasionally work irregular hours, such as evenings and weekends

Level of Language Proficiency
