SEED SPOT was founded in 2012 to empower entrepreneurs to launch and scale ventures that positively impact lives through new services, products, or technologies. A highly-skilled and impact-driven team of 13 with an annual average budget of $1.3 million have served over 1,500 entrepreneurs, including 72% from traditionally underrepresented communities. In the age of COVID, the organization has pivoted from in-person programming to a fully digital set of educational products and events. Vision for the CEO:

The CEO is our chief visionary, strategist and voice. We are searching for a dynamic, values-driven change agent who is deeply motivated by SEED SPOT’s mission to make social entrepreneurship accessible to all. Externally, the CEO serves as a global ambassador for social entrepreneurship, cultivates partnerships and resources, and increases the reach and impact of our work. Internally, the CEO steers and stewards the work of our innovative, talented staff and board, ensuring that our values, mission and viability are at the forefront of all decisions and lead us to the next level of impact. The CEO will be responsible for casting the vision of the future and driving the team towards continued growth, including enhancing our offerings, bolstering our technology and marketing infrastructure, exploring new revenue models, and scaling to serve those we may not yet be reaching. We are looking for someone who can own a dynamic and impactful future for SEED SPOT and the entrepreneurs that we serve.


Position Overview:

The Chief Executive Officer is responsible for the overall strategic development, growth, management, brand reputation, and fiscal health of SEED SPOT. The CEO works collaboratively with the Board of Directors to bring strength to the big picture vision, inspire and manage the team toward goals, and help transform ideas into realistic plans that lead to impact.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

● Leadership: Provide strong visionary leadership to ensure SEED SPOT executes its mission, delivers world-class programs, and has the desired impact in the world.

● Strategic Planning: Work with the Board of Directors to create and execute a multi-year strategic plan. Ensure a holistic, participatory, collaborative approach that honors all ideas and includes multiple stakeholders.

● Team Management: Ability to motivate and lead the team at SEED SPOT; specific skills in managing a remote team from across the country and upholding the incredible culture already in place.

● Digital Content/Partnerships: Lead the charge for the future of SEED SPOT programs and the desire for

long-term impact by engaging the team and stakeholders in new ways of serving entrepreneurs in a digital and inclusive environment.

● Scale Impact: Drive new strategic choices around marketing, partnerships, and other opportunities to scale the impact of SEED SPOT to serve more entrepreneurs in meaningful ways.

● Fundraising: Identify prospective supporters, guide cultivation process, make the “ask,” secure funding, and create an environment in which all donors are valued, engaged, and recognized for their contribution; this is supported by a Development Manager, Grant Writer and broader team.

● Governance: Support activities related to the Board of Directors; provide monthly communication on progress toward strategic objectives and budget, cultivate new board members, and respond to all board inquiries in a timely manner.

● Relationship Management: Build and maintain positive relationships with all SEED SPOT stakeholders.

● Public Presence: Ensure SEED SPOT maintains a well-respected brand, speak publicly at conferences, events, and serve as lead spokesperson for all media relations.

● Fiscal Management: Oversee the entire organizational P&L, ensure budget is met or exceeded annually, manage all expenses within budget, report monthly financial progress to the Board Executive Committee.

● Staff Culture/Management: Ensure a culture of diversity and inclusion, set internal organizational structure, manage the team towards meeting annual objectives, maintain a high level of staff retention & morale.

● Compliance: Ensure the organization maintains good standing, complies with all local and federal laws, and has the proper protections in place to mitigate risk.


Qualifications/Experience:

The successful candidate will be a high-energy, agile-minded, strategic, proactive, direct communicator committed to the vision and values of SEED SPOT, with demonstrated leadership experience in the non-profit sector managing teams, building partnerships, and fundraising. The following will generally define the successful incumbent:

● Future-thinker: the ability to lead the organization through the next iteration of programming in a digital environment leveraging technology and online modalities to scale impact.

● Pragmatic idealist: the ability to simultaneous think big and creatively, lead with urgency and aspirations, and understand reality and risk.

● Demonstrated racial equity and inclusion competencies: commitment to SEED SPOT’s core mission and ability to manage team, stakeholders, partner, and other relationships to ensure alignment.

● Building Diverse Revenue Streams: Proven fundraising ability with corporate, foundation, and individual donors coupled with a skill set and commitment to earned revenue to ensure long-term sustainability. Nice-to-have experience includes marketing or product management, especially of an on-line product.

● Compelling Communicator: Influential, articulate, and accomplished communicator with the ability to communicate with clarity, urgency, and power to diverse internal and external audiences including board and staff members, communities of color, business, policymakers, philanthropic investors, and social sector leaders.

● Technically Savvy: Experience with digital transformation models, capabilities, and technologies required to operationalize, monetize, and enhance impact. Operational experience with Slack, Basecamp, G-Suite Products, Zoom, and social media platforms. Bonus points for being familiar with website design and applications such as SalesForce, Adobe, Active Campaign, Field Trip, WordPress and Tableau.

The ideal candidate will come into the SEED SPOT culture with a desire to learn and embed themselves in what has worked thus far to keep a highly talented team delivering results year-over-year. At the same time, the right candidate will look to enhance the internal culture of the team by helping to set realistic goals, encourage true work/life balance, and celebrate individual and collective contributions to the impact of the organization. The ideal candidate should be flexible and able to multitask: manage and engage a remote team working across different time zones; work within an ambiguous, fast-moving environment, while also driving toward clarity and solutions for the team around priorities.

● Directly Manages: Chief of Staff, CFO, VP of Impact, VP of Programs and Development Director

Location: Any location / remote – we are seeking a CEO who shares a national/global perspective for this work. SEED SPOT does have a strong presence in Arizona and Washington, DC.
