POSITION DESCRIPTION

This is an exciting opportunity to join a small, but mighty non-profit working to protect endangered and threatened species across the country. The Endangered Species Coalition has prioritized the principles of of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI), and all staff integrate these priorities throughout our work. As a central member of a lively and congenial team, you will be responsible for working together with the Executive Director to seek out fundraising opportunities, assist with grant writing and reporting, and maintaining a well-structured system of grant organization and management. You will assist in putting on fundraising meetings and events, as well as implementing other network building and marketing activities. And you will assist in setting and tracking the organization’s budget.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

Development Operations (10% of time)

• Assist the Executive Director in creating and implementing a development plan.

• Support and maintain the vision, mission, priorities, and guiding principles of ESC, including JEDI principles.

• Understand the strategic direction and purpose of the organization and support the Coalition’s big-picture fundraising strategies and budgetary needs.

• Work with the Executive Director, accounting team, and staff to create annual budgets.

• Support staff in monitoring of project budgets.

Grants Management (75% of time)

• Help formulate and implement strategies for growth in ESC fundraising and development activities, including maintaining and growing existing relationships with foundations by ensuring regular, proactive and effective communication.

• Coordinate grant activities in collaboration with senior leadership and program staff including research, cultivation, persuasive proposal writing, and reporting.

• Submit, manage and track grant proposals and the grants calendar to ensure that deadlines and outcomes are met. 

• Set up meetings with foundations. Prepare documentation and materials for meetings and presentations as necessary.

• Participate in the creation, planning and implementation of new and existing fundraising efforts, including maintaining and growing existing relationships with monthly and major donors and foundations by ensuring proactive and effective communication.

Individual Giving (15% of time)

• In collaboration with senior leadership and the board, oversee major donor outreach efforts, including coordinating planning for fundraising emails, mailings, and events.

• Coordinate and oversee fundraising event logistics: develop and monitor event project timelines and implementation. Negotiate with vendors to achieve favorable prices that ensure adherence to established budget. Prepare and monitor ongoing event progress reports.

• Work with ESC team members to create and disseminate special events promotional materials.

• Coordinate the implementation of e-communications, mailings and acknowledgements to major donors.

• Oversee a grants management database, and ensure that all pertinent information regarding Major Gifts, events, contacts, and prospects is entered into the database.

• Maintain event tracking reports and incoming grants to ensure accurate budgeting and projection processes.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• 3+ years of demonstrated, successful grant-writing, development, and/or event management experience.

• G Suite proficient

• Microsoft Suite proficient

ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES

• Poised, professional, and reliable in: working independently and proactively in a fast-paced environment, meeting multiple concurrent deadlines, effectively organizing time and priorities, and following through to project completion.

• Excellent information management, organizational, and analytical skills, with great attention to detail.

• Very strong interpersonal, intercultural, and verbal/written communication skills. High level of comfort speaking to people on the phone, in meetings, and at events.

• Demonstrated ability to establish and cultivate relationships among various stakeholders. 

• Culturally sensitive and able to thrive working for an organization that is committed to implementing JEDI principles

• Experience with Salesforce or other development database. 

• Comfort and ability to manage basic math essential. 

DESIRED COMPETENCIES

• Experience/familiarity with budgeting highly desired.

• Experience in online research.

• Enthusiasm, a sense of humor, and a demonstrated passion for our wildlife focused mission.

• Willingness and ability to travel occasionally.

PHYSICAL & OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• Access to a personal cellular device required 

POSITION DETAILS

• This is a full time, exempt position and is therefore not eligible for overtime.

• This role may require some weekend or evening hours to meet pressing grant deadlines or support event logistics. 

• This is a work from home position. Should ESC re-open an office in Washington, D.C.,  this position may be required to come into the office on occasion.

Salary: $40,000-$48,000, commensurate with experience.
