Texas Conservation Corps, a program of the non-profit American YouthWorks, has 25 years of experience empowering young adults through conservation, education, service, and jobs training. We recruit over 120 crew members annually and enroll them in an AmeriCorps term of service where they join more than 75,000 Americans across the country, all of which are tackling different community needs.

Our program successfully educates and trains the next generation of leaders in the field, while working and camping in some of the most beautiful places throughout Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana.

Who: We recruit individuals who are 18-30, and can commit to a 6 or 11 month adventure

What: After three weeks of training, your crew will be assigned their first project where they will be completing local work, or going on hitch to complete 10 day long projects while camping

Where: Our crews are based out of our Austin or Houston operating sites, they travel with their crew to their project sites in Texas and the surrounding region in a program vehicle

When: We have 6 and 11 month positions that start every January, July, and September

Why: To help improve public lands for the community and for wildlife. Whether its improving recreational opportunities for a community or mitigating the risk of a wildfire - the bottom line is we “Get Things Done”.


Benefits: Our members earn a living stipend which totals $1,308 a month, and receive an Education Award upon successful completion of their term. (6 month: $2,960, 11 month: $5,920). Free Health Insurance & Student Loan Deferment.

Other: CPR & Wilderness First Aid certifications, FEMA Certifications, disaster response training, chainsaw training, leadership training
