World Community Education Center, Montesssori Educators (Pre-K through 12)

Located in a wooded setting near the small town of Bedford, Virginia, the World Community Education Center (WCEC) offers a prepared environment for learning focused on academic excellence and universal spiritual values that build character and community responsibility. Individual attention is key to helping each student find his or her genius. The knowledge-plus-values based approach prepares future generations for the challenges of the 21st century.

Students (pre-K though-12) thrive in classes that utilize proven curricula and research-based best practices with an emphasis on rigorous academics, creative and critical thinking, mutual discovery, and practical life skills. All lessons are taught with the intention:

WCEC is seeking energetic and dedicated teachers to begin in August, 2021; educators who care deeply about children and are eager to join WCEC’s small, family-oriented school community on a beautiful wooded, rural campus. The ideal educators will guide students’ academic, social, physical, emotional and spiritual needs; challenging each child to reach their fullest potential, in accordance with the Montessori philosophy. 

NOTE: We welcome newly trained Montessori teachers. We are also happy to hear from candidates who are interested in, but do not yet have, Montessori certification. WCEC can offer teacher training and support for candidates interested in learning and growing with us.

 We currently have four openings. (Click on link to see full job descriptions): 

  • High School STEM
  • High School Language Arts
  • Elementary School Teacher
  • Primary School Teacher

At WCEC, all teachers are active community members who share in the general support and care of the school community, serve as student advisors, and participate in community service. Responsibilities also include collaboration and participation in a school-wide, co-curricular activities.

These are 9-month positions, beginning August 2021. Schedule to be determined by course load. Ability to support school functions, which occasionally occur on evenings and weekends, is a plus.

Compensation to be determined based on experience/ability.

HIGH SCHOOL ADOLESCENT GUIDES: Our growing high school currently serves 10 students (grades 9-12). Adolescent Guides are responsible for the educational advancement for these students, utilizing principles based in the Montessori tradition of education:

1)  Multi-disciplinary or STEM focused. The ideal STEM candidate will have Bachelors or Masters degree; enthusiasm for project-based learning; teaching experience, preferably with a diverse group of students; knowledge/experience in STEM fields (particularly the sciences); excellent communication skills; the ability to work in a team; a love for the outdoors; and a passion for working with adolescents.

2)  English and Spanish teacher. The ideal English & Spanish candidate will have Bachelors or Masters degree; enthusiasm for project-based learning; teaching experience, preferably with a diverse group of students; excellent communication skills; the ability to work in a team; a love for the outdoors; and a passion for working with adolescents. The ideal candidate will also be able to teach Spanish language at all levels of our school. NOTE: While our ideal candidate teaches both English and Spanish, candidates who can teach only English or Spanish are welcome to apply.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHER teaches a mixed age (7 to 9 years old) classroom of about 10 students. The Elementary teacher is the anchor for the student experience; responsible for creating and maintaining the classroom environment, preparing lesson plans for each child, preparing daily group activities, facilitating smooth transitions throughout the day and supervising snack, lunch and recess. They will monitor each child’s attendance, prepare progress reports, and communicate with parents.

Ideal candidates will possess:

  • At least one year of teaching experience or BA or BS degree
  • Montessori experience or is currently in training (AMI, AMS, or MACTE Elementary Montessori diploma)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to maintain and create clear guidelines and expectations for students
  • Love of the outdoors and nature; service and community
  • Appreciation for diversity along with enthusiasm for and experience with the age group.

PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHER: teaches a mixed age (3 to 7 years old) classroom of 7-10 students.
