Crew Supervisor

 Good Neighbors is a job training and employment program at Project Renewal that provides street sanitation and horticulture services in New York City Neighborhoods. We are looking for an individual with horticultural skills and a strong work ethic to join our team. This is a multifaceted position involving sidewalk and street cleaning, plant maintenance and job training while being highly visible in the community. We are looking for an individual with a can-do attitude is committed to beautifying the neighborhood while creating positive work experiences for our Good Neighbors Crew.

Job Description:

Supervise and work alongside a crew of 2-8 members;  Ensure team follows daily routes assignments to maintain cleanliness of sidewalks, malls and plant beds/ tree pits. Report to Business Manager and Senior Crew Supervisor. 

Perform sanitation services including: general sidewalk cleaning, litter removal and shoveling snow when needed, emptying Dept. of Sanitation trash bins, placing all bagged garbage in designated areas.

Operate and properly maintain tools and equipment. Instruct crew in proper maintenance practices and the care and use of tools.

Perform horticulture services including tree pit renovation, garden clean-up, preparation and planting, watering and winterization of gardens, end beds and tree beds

Interact with community members during shifts and special events and act as positive ambassador to Project Renewal at all times

Assist with the planning and execution of projects, including transportation of plants, tools, and supplies; Keep simple attendance records and prepare written reports.

Perform any other assigned duties.

Qualifications:

•  Customer Service
•  Manual Dexterity: the ability to quickly move hands together with arms to grasp objects
•  Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.
•  Ability to work on a small crew under the direction of Project Manager and Crew Leader as well as develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others
•  Perform general physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs; moving the whole body, such as walking several blocks, lifting, balancing, sweeping, stooping, handling of heavy materials
•  Demonstrate a positive attitude and ability to interact and engage with members of the community
•  Ability to work outdoors, exposed to weather sounds, temperature variation, and hazards of working in public places
• Willingness to train, supervise, and delegate work according to individual strengths while working alongside them;
