Position Summary

Perform patient care supportive duties to assist medical and/or nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients. Provides sexual and reproductive counseling and education to patients receiving health care services so that patients may make informed decisions regarding their contraceptive and reproductive health needs. Ensure professional image and efficient clinical flow through coordination of patient intake, administrative/clerical and clinical support services. Participates in team approach to increase patient volume and maintain efficiency by answering calls, scheduling appointments, problem-solving and triaging questions to appropriate parties. Requires an understanding of and commitment to quality healthcare and excellence in customer service.

Medical Assistant

  • Assist M.D., Mid-Level Clinician, and Nurse as necessary with laboratory procedures provided, e.g., pregnancy testing and phlebotomy.
  • Assist with a wide variety of activities relevant to abortion care, including informed consent, patient support during the procedure, monitoring patient recovery, emergency triage, room turn over, and equipment processing; Provide other medical assisting as needed, including sexual health history, screening, counseling, and lab tests.
  • Conduct patient intake; record patient vitals: B/P, pulse, and weight and assist with gynecological exams as necessary. Create accurate case policies in Athena; enter complete and accurate information in Athena.
  • Provide skilled, sensitive reproductive health counseling, educational, and referral services; provide HIV counseling and testing services.
  • Prepare treatment rooms for examination of patients, assuring adequate stock of all necessary medical supplies; sterilize instruments; maintain standard inventory items, including both medical and patient educational supplies.
  • Maintain patient electronic health record (EHR) to ensure compliance with established protocols and documentation requirements; complete relevant reports and patient logs, documenting information to ensure compliance with established practices and regulations.

Patient Care Coordinator

  • Responsible for patient registration, check-in, check-out procedures, and patient calls; verify insurance coverage; create accurate case policies in Athena; enter complete and accurate information in Athena.
  • Greet patients in a courteous, respectful, caring manner; communicate effectively and sensitively to patients from a wide range of backgrounds and ages.
  • Collect copays, unpaid balance amounts, and set up payment plans; inform patients about the availability of fee for service discounts based on income, and MA Department of Public Health coverage in specific situations; assist patient in completing the Application for Discounted Care.
  • Answer incoming calls for three sites and triage appropriately; call patients on No Show Prevention call list (under Appointments) daily to prevent no shows; make recommendations for decreasing no shows across three sites.
  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise sensitivity and a nonjudgmental manner in dealing with sexuality and sensitive issues with clients.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of High School Degree with 2 years’ experience in health or human services required.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently required. Ability to work in a computerized office environment required, including skill in E-mail and word processing software applications. Demonstrated skill with electronic health record (EHR) and MS office preferred. Bilingual preferred.
  • Must be able to relate well to diverse communities and individuals.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Certification from accredited Medical Assisting Program
  • Satisfactory completion of training in reproductive health counseling
  • CPR certification
