The Washington Center for Equitable Growth is a nonprofit, nonpartisan research and grantmaking organization that engages with academics and policymakers to better understand and address the effects of economic inequality in the United States. We have an immediate opening for a Policy and Government Relations Associate to use Equitable Growth’s cutting-edge research to create, coordinate, and manage relationships, alliances, and partnerships with policymakers and advocates on a range of economic policy issues related to the Equitable Growth mission. The right candidate will be skilled at cultivating relationships, an extraordinary advocate, a highly organized administrator, an excellent problem solver.

Responsibilities include:

  • Take the lead to create, coordinate, and manage outreach with both Federal and state policymakers and advocates on economic policy issues as part of Equitable Growth’s External Relations team

  • In collaboration with Equitable Growth’s Policy and Communications teams, develop and implement strategies for translating academic research on inequality and growth into a policy-relevant narrative

  • Identify and engage with key stakeholders in the academic community based on forthcoming policy debates, in coordination with the Research team

  • Track and report to Equitable Growth’s Research and Policy teams’ opportunities to address Federal and state policymakers’ and advocates’ needs via an academic research agenda

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least three to five years of experience working on economic policy issues at either the Federal or state level. A graduate degree in public policy, economics, or another applicable social science may be substituted for two years’ work experience
  • A track record of cultivating productive relationships and influencing key stakeholders
  • An excellent candidate will be familiar with state and local branches of government and operations as well as with membership organizations representing state and local elected officials
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organized, with strong administrative skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work well on a team
